And I will have zero sympathy for those that are paying more when they are paying more when on food stamps.
-it almost seems like a tax that only affects the poor, which is refreshing to me-

I'm glad you agree. Because I think the "China will pay the tariffs" is distracting and untrue.Walla Walla Dawg II wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 7:11 pmSure I agree with that. But I also know that a little pain in the short term is better in the long haul.gil wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 6:46 pmI want talk about what is going on right now, current events and issues that affect American prosperity and greatness. I want to get away from the "he lied so it's ok if I lie" suggestion.Walla Walla Dawg II wrote: ↑Fri May 23, 2025 4:55 pmIF you are wanting to talk about lies, we can go a good 550,000 pages on lies from Barry and Biden alone.
Shit, if we throw Schrillery in there, we can go over a million.
Gil, stop being a dog with a bone. If a country wants to trade with us enough, they can pay the tariff's. China isn't paying them, but they are pretty desperate now for trade.
No one is paying the taxes (tariffs) the President has imposed other than American businesses and consumers. Do you not agree with that?
A month or so back I saw a study about how the citizens in the middle states (Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, etc...) felt about the prices going up. For some reason these back-woods inbreed idiots understand that a little pain right now (higher prices) are tolerable and accepted as long as it's eventually fixed.
[this is how I've felt from the beginning]
But Gil, we all understand that you have never liked a thing about our current President and would rather have Shit-Stain-Harris in the Oval Office. She and her abortions, DEI and other waste of tax payers money (insuring kickbacks for her and the other Dem's and other dirty politicians). A world where your skin and sexual deviance mean more than hard work and earning it.
I'm fine with short-term sacrifice, but what is the long run plan? Getting manufacturing back to America? I'm all for that goal, just like I'm in favor of many of President Trump's *goals*, but I don't see the plan and I definitely don't see the discipline to articulate a long term vision and then stick with what is need to get there.
I mean, it takes years to get an advanced manufacturing facility up and running, and that assumes that you have access to the necessary capital as well as the skilled labor force. I also assume high tariff rates could encourage that. But how many times have tariff rates changed in the past 4 months? If tariff rates are the driver of the investment, what investor is confident that tariffs will not be low again when the manufacturing facility is ready to produce?

Re: Tariffs?
You are complaining about the wrong thing.
I am very perplexed that you don't consider yourself a lefty. All you do is complain about President Trump, but when Biden was in office, you defended him.
Why not do a post about something that you think is going well in the country..... and back up your opinion with facts, not the MSM version of facts.

If you were willing to listen, I complement he President for what he has done with securing the southern border. I complement him for his initiatives with Arab countries, and I hope he is moving toward expanding the Abraham Accords.
I defended Biden when I thought he was being criticized unfairly, yes. In particular, I don't think he was responsible for world-wide inflation, and I applauded him for leading the passage of legislation (not just evacuative orders) to fund infrastructure and create investments for manufacturing of semiconductors and other high tech industries.
My views on things have developed of course, but I considered myself a moderate republican when I voted for Dole and Bush, and I'd still vote for either of them again over a lot of Democrats.

The fact that they are used for bargaining and that we haven't had a free market in decades.
The fact that the world has been taking advantage of us for decades and it needed to stop!

Re: Tariffs?
And when he said:
"If tariffs don't work, as the left says, why does the rest of the world tariff us?"
Tariff's work, that's the bottom line.
There hasn't be Free Trade in DECADES. So whining about free trade, is just an excuse to question the tariffs.

Re: Tariffs?
No other country "tariffs us". The tariffs imposed by China or Canada or Japan or Great Britain are taxes on their citizens and business who import American products.
