Worrying about getting killed in a mass shooting is like worrying about dying in a plane crash.
Exactly. I was driving home just after midnight on New Year's, and THAT was the sort of thing I needed to worry about, not even getting close to other vehicles. People fear the wrong things.

Very true. Both sides of the gun control debate are so politically gassed up right now it's unreal. That being said, I can see how people might want to take precautions against unlikely events. What could be worse than sending your child to school and they don't come home? But, you're still 100% right. The focus is on mass shootings and gun legislation when the real reason people are dying is texting and driving and heart failure. The reason these subjects don't get the same media attention is because they don't generate controversy like the guns do.

It does seem like schools and churches are often the targets of these statistically infrequent tragedies, though. I think they're targeted for shock and terror value as well as for their lack of security. I don't see anything wrong with increasing the security up to the point of armed guards and high-tech facilities with metal detectors, AI camera systems, and lock-down capabilities. I guess the question is what level of mass shootings is acceptable? It obviously will cost a lot of money to beef up security. We accept a certain amount of highway casualties. Are we willing to accept a certain amount of school shootings? Or do we want our tax dollars going to 100% secure schools?

Guess we all should move to Texas!
I mean, ideally you would like to be in a spot where nobody is opening fire on a church to begin with.

Oregon looks like a great place to avoid hot lead. If you can make it to Hawaii, then even less chance of meeting your maker via the bullet.
You can't go through life worrying about
all this. When you're time is up, it's up!
But Texas seems to be more equipped
with dealing with shootings. hmmm
