My niece is brilliant and just wasted her 1st quarter of College at Cal with this nonsense:

Cal (Berkeley) isn't a trade school. Frosh don't need to take classes in their future professions. They need to learn to think and communicate. If she is brilliant, I'm confident she will be fine.
I would prefer she doesn't learn to think and communicate about nonsense while they attempt create more far left libs.
I never took anything resembling a "gender studies" class, but I don't see the problem learning about a field of study and a perspective.

This should NOT have to be taught. It is like teaching people to not treat people badly or commit crimes. It common sense and common decency people should already have by time the get to college if they weren't raised by wolves.

I work with dozens of high ranking women making from $150-$800k and they are all treated identically to men.
What is the purpose of gender studies?
Gender studies is a field that promotes gender equality and combats discrimination against women and other marginalized groups. By examining the history of gender norms over time, it's possible to understand how they contribute to the continued oppression of women in modern society.

3 men and 4 women on the leadership team. I guess because all those doing the hiring had gender studies in college.

There is room for the study of gender dynamics within the field of sociology. The problem is when it became it's own thing.

Women's studies, Gender studies, African American studies, etc., these have all become monsters in the academic world supporting a significant number of academic careers, careers that are built on publishing. You can't just get a PhD and have a nice university teaching career, you have to prove over and over again that you are contributing to the field, and you do that by publishing articles in respected academic journals that no one outside academia will ever read. That's the game. Basically, these fields exist in the university to support careers. It's careerism run amok.

Time to shed the "Degree is everything" mantra. Plumbers, welders, electricians, wood workers can all make triple digit salaries in the time it takes the average college student to graduate. Typically, those service jobs do not have any debt, too. So tell me again why I need a degree in History, English, Comparative Religions, or Basket Weaving. Read up on a guy by the name of Mike Rowe of "Dirty Jobs" fame.
Right on!

Does it work? What's the vibe on a call like that when you're the only male? Curious.

Zero difference due to Gender make up....regardless of whether it is almost all women, even split or all men....If I am in a one on one with my male boss there tends to be profanity though. lol
