Correcting myself here. Benjamin Harrison (left office in 1901) was the last with a full beard. William Howard Taft (left office in 1913) was the last with facial hair (a mustache). Lincoln was both the first Republican President and the first president with a beard. Others before Lincoln had big sideburns (muttonchops) but no beards or 'staches until Abe. (Apparently Harry Truman grew a mustache and goatee while on vacation after the 1948 election and shaved it off after being mocked.)
