When I grew up in Florida, the drinking fountains still said White or Colored.

Black kids had to sit in the balcony at the movie theater.

No black kids attended the two schools I went to, one public, one private.

Chain gangs who worked the creeks were segregated.

Black people could not eat in the lunch area at Woolworth's.

I knew what I was seeing was wrong, even when I was eight.

Most of these brainwashed SJW idiots presume the country should have been birthed in 1789 as a perfect entity. They don't understand the country is a work in progress. Growing, fluctuating, and improving gradually. The don't see that their "perfect world" is a recipe for disaster because the country is designed for slow, provable, tried-and-true change. In that way, you have proof something will work. The "change" they want is something the country cannot go back from in the event they may be wrong.

Exactly. They remind me of spoiled, selfish and over-indulged children (which many of them are lol) who have zero understanding of history and how very far this country has come. And instead of working constructively for change in a rational manner, they just want to piss on everything and everyone while screaming to the high heavens that life isn't precisely the way they think it should be.

Honestly, fuck 'em. I have many lib friends who are thoughtful, earnest and genuinely concerned for well-considered change.

But many of them have been egged on and used by politicians and the media to the point that they have become mirror images of that which they claim to oppose.

And no, there is not one person from the right on this board who would ever say Trump is some sort of Golden Boy or that the conservative party is a panacea for all ills that afflict this nation. And Trump certainly attracts his share of Yay-hoos and Yokels. But the vitriol and lies from the left that dogged his presidency is something I have never seen before from those who are tasked to deliver the news and also from the scummiest politicians I've seen since Nixon. It should be a source of the deepest concern for all Americans, particularly after watching the current administration's ham-handed shameless arrogance and disgusting incompetence.

Many think of the climate crisis as distinct from the health and economic crises caused by the pandemic. But the three crises – and their solutions – are interconnected.

COVID-19 is itself a consequence of environmental degradation: one recent study dubbed it “the disease of the Anthropocene.” Moreover, climate change will exacerbate the social and economic problems highlighted by the pandemic. These include governments’ diminishing capacity to address public-health crises, the private sector’s limited ability to withstand sustained economic disruption, and pervasive social inequality.

These shortcomings reflect the distorted values underlying our priorities. For example, we demand the most from “essential workers” (including nurses, supermarket workers, and delivery drivers) while paying them the least. Without fundamental change, climate change will worsen such problems.

The climate crisis is also a public-health crisis. Global warming will cause drinking water to degrade and enable pollution-linked respiratory diseases to thrive. According to some projections, 3.5 billion people globally will live in unbearable heat by 2070.

Addressing this triple crisis requires reorienting corporate governance, finance, policy, and energy systems toward a green economic transformation. To achieve this, three obstacles must be removed: business that is shareholder-driven instead of stakeholder-driven, finance that is used in inadequate and inappropriate ways, and government that is based on outdated economic thinking and faulty assumptions.
