Finding Reliable and Affordable Mattress

I went buying to 5 different shops and the all of the mattresses under $399 were very uncomfortable. They do this for a reason, they don't ever want to sell the $399 mattress, but they want you to think that all mattresses that are comfortable need to cost over $800. I like a mattress with medium firmness, not too hard, but not too soft, healthy and comfortable thats all I really need. Can anyone suggest me one?

I recently looked all over for a new mattress set and was shocked to see the prices. I vowed to not spend over $1000 for a new mattress and box spring. Finally I went to Costco and found a nice queen sized set for less than $1000. The mattresses are so tall that even king sized blankets barely cover the whole works.
