I'm sure this has been said multiple times, but what sticks in my head about defending free speech is that it's one thing to defend against attack the things you agree with. That's easy. It's another thing to defend the right of people to say things that you abhor.

100%. Tolerance is important if we are going to learn from each other. I'm always open to ideas - I just never hear any actual tangent ideas from the left - it's just "listen to me or die!" Conservative are more open to having a conversation, in my experience. Leftists are only interested in telling you what's up - complete refusal to ever hear any other point of view - to their own detriment. That's been my experience. I live in the middle and try to draw from both sides. I just don't see the Leftist-type of insanity and emotion-over-logic based thinking coming from conservatives and definitely not from moderates.
