My point, even to my pro-abortion friends, is that we need to stop playing political football with this issue. There are three ways of doing this. First, return the issue to the States and have the State Legislatures vote on it. This is the method currently being used. Second, put up in an Initiative or Referendum to the vote of the people. This would be my preferred method. And finally, create a Constitutional Amendment and codify it into the Constitution. The reason this has never been tried is that the pro-abortion folks know it would have no chance. There is no way you could get 33 States to ratify the amendment. This last option would put quits to any future efforts and produce an end to the politics involved.
