Why did you put FBI in quotes? Do you suspect it wasn't the actual FBI that did the raid? Maybe they were BLM activists wearing FBI gear?

Speculation is that something like this (asking for the warrant in the first place) would have to be approved at the top of the justice department, i.e., Merrick Garland.
For my money, it is terrible - absolutely terrible - timing if you are a Democrat. They are on the threshold of a big legislative victory, which is following on a couple of others. Republicans are nominating a lot of fringe characters who are going to be good targets in November. Democrats need to keep focusing on these things, rather than talking about Trump. This leads me to believe that it is not something that was orchestrated for political purposes.

I do get a kick out of Pelosi saying that nobody is above the law. What a hypocrite.

I kind of doubt it was just based on "chatter". Especially since the downside of not finding anything is huge.
My understanding (from what I read, not from experience) is that a search warrant specifies what the authorities are looking for and what the suspected crime is. The Justice Department and the court have this information, but they are not saying.
Trump has this information too, and if it really is a baseless witch hunt, why won't he make the search warrant public?
