So how are these mass deportations going to work?

Post by Seattle or Bust » Fri Nov 08, 2024 1:11 am

Trump is on record today saying that his administration has no choice but to enact full-scale deportation of illegal immigrants in this country.

1. At what cost? How can the US afford such an endeavor?

2. What will farmers do without the cheap labor? Seems odd to rail on high grocery prices and then take away the labor force that supplies food.

3. How do you make sure that you're not lumping in legal immigrants with illegal immigrants? Are you stopping people who look Hispanic and forcing them to show proof of citizenship? Are people calling in and reporting their neighbors who they think might be illegal?

4. What do you do with the illegal immigrants once you've caught them?

Really wish this had been laid out before the election...

1. Use the money they are currently spending on housing, feeding, and educating them.
2. Work visas
3. I'm guessing those who went to the trouble of going through the immigration process the correct and legal way won't mind.
4. Put them on flights back to their countries of origin and bill those governments.

No way that adds up to the money that it's going to take to locate and remove them.

2. Work visas

How will that work? You give work visas to people you just deported and then bring them back?

3. I'm guessing those who went to the trouble of going through the immigration process the correct and legal way won't mind.

They won't mind getting stopped on the street or having their home searched simply b/c they're hispanic? I don't buy that for 5 seconds.

4. Put them on flights back to their countries of origin and bill those governments.

And how do you do that? Those countries are going to tell the US to fuck right off.

Just like Mexico told us to fuck off when Trump told them they needed to stop the migrant trains from central America transiting their country? Seem to recall they were happy to comply.

Agreed, the cost to deport them would cost less than one month of housing and feeding them on the government dime.

So go after the low hanging fruit, anyone law enforcement knows is illegal and a criminal and can get their hands on.

Then, every illegal on government handouts should be deported. We know their address because we're paying their bills. Round em up.

I doubt they'll hunt anyone down that's earning their keep and staying out of trouble.

At least until they have the time.

At this point anyone that gets caught here that's an illegal should never be allowed back in, and that will cause most to self-deport and start the immigration process to come back in legally in my opinion

Reminder it might be a good time to sell your homes before 5% of the supply becomes vacant

Asked Grok to do the math-
To calculate what percentage of the U.S. housing supply 24,000,000 people would occupy, we first need to know the total number of housing units in the U.S. According to the data provided:

- **Total housing units in the U.S.:** Approximately 136.57 million (as per the information from Policy Advice).

Now, let's calculate:

1. **Average Household Size:** While the exact average household size for immigrants isn't directly stated, we can estimate it generally. If we assume an average household size similar to the national or immigrant average, let's use roughly **2.5 people per household** for calculation purposes, which might be a conservative estimate based on the trends of larger immigrant family sizes.

2. **Number of Households for 24 million people:**
\[
\text{Number of Households} = \frac{24,000,000}{2.5} \approx 9,600,000 \text{ households}
\]

3. **Percentage of Total Housing Supply:**
\[
\text{Percentage} = \left( \frac{9,600,000}{136,570,000} \right) \times 100 \approx 7.03\%
\]

Therefore, assuming an average of 2.5 people per household, 24,000,000 people would occupy approximately **7.03%** of the total housing supply in the United States.
The historic residential vacancy rate in the US has been 4-5%.

Throw enough illegals at the situation, and you get a real estate market like we've seen over the last several years. Everything explodes.

Now what happens when the problem goes away?

I read somewhere he was floating the idea of hiring 10,000 new ICE agents - I think I have that number right. He may have been exaggerating. Not sure that is realistic or even necessary, but that would certainly get the purge going. I would think maybe 1000 agents in concert with ATF and local authorities would do the trick. The problem with 10,000 is job stability - you kick 10-20 million folks out - your gig is gonna be over. It'll be interesting.

How is going to be done

Ask President Bill Clinton. He deported over 11 million illegals during his term in office

The libs are so disingenuous over just about everything

Where are you getting 11 million?

"Between 1993 and 2001, during the Presidency of Bill Clinton, about 870,000 people were deported. Between 2001 and 2008, during the Presidency of George W. Bush, about 2.0 million people were deported, while between 2009 and 2016, during the Presidency of Barack Obama, about 3.2 million people were deported."

These were not "mass deportations." Classification for "removal" changed in the early 2000's to illegal immigrants being turned away at the border which is why Bush and Obama's numbers look really high. "Since 2012, border removals have outnumbered those from the interior of the United States." - CATO.

"ICE under President Obama’s administration removed an average of 1.38 percent of the interior illegal immigrant population per year of his presidency." "The Obama administration also focused immigration enforcement on criminal offenders" - CATO.

Bottom line is, Trump is talking about sweeping, mass deportations on both criminal and non-criminal illegal immigrants that have never been attempted. We're not talking 1.38% of the interior illegal immigrant population... we're talking all of it.

So no, I'm not being disingenuous when I'm asking how it will work to attempt to remove the entire illegal immigrant population from the interior US.

Trump won't have to physically deport them all either.

Once they know they can never get back into the US if they're caught here illegally they start to self-deport.

DHS defines a “return” as “the confirmed movement of an inadmissible or deportable alien out of the United States not based on an order of removal.” In other words, a return occurs when an apprehended immigrant leaves the U.S. voluntarily before being ordered to do so through a formal removal proceeding.

“Generally, aliens waive their right to a hearing, remain in custody, and, if applicable, agree to depart the United States under supervision,” the DHS says of returns.

There were more than 11.4 million returns during the fiscal years that fell mostly under Clinton and more than 8.3 million returns during the fiscal years mainly under Bush.
