Ohhhhh... because they just won a pennant? But who gives a shit about that detail.AT Fresno wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 3:19 pmRealisticly why would anyone go look what you posted about the Rays or anything? I'm not sure how different levels of stupidity are measured, idiot, cretin, mushhead, schlub? Maybe it's just someone lacking common sense...there's some pretty knowledgeable common sense baseball minds on this forum..pretty sure you aren't in that groupDonn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 2:21 pmI don't think it's about the importance of games. think what he means is they want him to pitch a complete season.
I don't think they give a crap about the playoffs. And they are not going to use him to try and make the playoffs. Go look what I posted about the Rays. I wager the Rays would use Gilbert the same as the Mariners, if not even more conservatively. The difference is they have the pitching depth to compete for the pennant. That's the difference between the two

Re: Proof that SS is an idiot
The Dodgersl lost a starter and are going with 4 starters for the present, unless they have a crowded schedule in which case thay bring a guy up or grab a bullpen guy. Sort of like they did it in the 50's.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 3:18 pm
I don't know how liberal it is, guess you could call it progressive perhaps. I think what it is, the Mariners are employing 21st century strategy, they suck, so it must be because they don't go about things like a team from the 50s. The deal is, I think if you look at who was in last year's WS they use some pretty liberal approaches themselves. And I'm including the dodgers. I haven't followed them closely. But I know in the past they have been intent on limiting innings.
Re: Proof that SS is an idiot
Yeah and their brilliant pitching strategy has resulted in no less than 4 lost starters. Excuse me if I am not fawning over their inability to reinvent the wheel.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 3:18 pmI don't know if it's hilarious or not but I believe it's what he is getting at. You can call it liberalism if you want, all I am trying to do is attempt to point out what they have made perfectly fucking clear about how they go about managing their pitching. If there is anything more obvious about it than they want them to pitch an entire season rather than be shut down in September I'd like to hear it

What I think you guys are prone to do is attempt to fold the Mariners failings into your general view of the world. You want everything to go back to some sort of Leave it to Beaver fantasy from your youth. The Mariners inability to adapt to modem baseball strategy fits the model. But think how condficted things would be if you lived in Tampa lol ..

Re: Proof that SS is an idiot
I completely get having a ~100-120 inning limit for Gilbert but having him pitch only 4 innings so he can make it to the end of the season makes zero sense. Does SS think that we are going to be in the race in Sept making those games anything more that glorified ST games? If he does, he is even dumber than I thought.
What is liberal about your thinking is that it advocates obediently following the "experts" or the "government" because it is impossible that you can be smarter than them so its just CRAZY to question even the most nonsensical policies, ideas or strategies.
When I went up to the Boston U are about a month ago and saw 100% of college age people wearing masks outside even though only 1% of transmissions occur outdoors is another example.

They are also in first place in the east last I checked, despite losing four starters. The Mariners lose a single starter and the season is over.
Do the Rays have starters? What constitutes a starter?

The Mariners have lost four starters with their inane six man rotation and bullpen games.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 3:37 pmD-train wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 3:26 pmYeah and their brilliant pitching strategy has resulted in no less than 4 lost starters.
