Seager Option
Re: Seager Option
I'm not looking at Toro to play 3B. I would prefer someone with a bit more pop and don't care all that much about average. I think if Toro works at 2B in the offseason, he will become a more than adequate player at that position. My biggest fear is that they don't replace Seager or re-sign him and they move France to 3B, thus opening up 1B for the anointed return of Evan White. I want White to earn the position, not be given to him because they signed him to a major league contract! Show me what you can do in AAA for three months and then we'll talk.

Re: Seager Option
Toro hit for power in the minors, more than Seager, it could be he is projected to hit for more power in the majors than he has shown so far
Back in 2019, Abraham Toro was among the hottest prospects in baseball. He crushed Double-A to the tune of a .306/.393/.513 line with 22 home runs in 98 games, and, after a promotion to Triple-A, posted a ridiculous .424/.506/.606 slash in 16 games to force a call up to the bigs. While his major league debut had its moments, he wasn’t able to carry over his momentum from the upper minors, and hit just .218/.303/.385 on the whole. Enough to build on, for sure, but also not enough to solidify a role going forward.

Moore has a huge advantage over Toro as a UT because he can play SS so agree on him being a better option as you would need a second UT to play SS if Toro was a bench player next season.AT Funchal-Madeira wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 5:20 pmToro is a switch hitter with an advanced approach at the plate. He may increase in power as he matures. He has a medium range, his arm is not totally accurate nor strong. He is slightly above average as a baserunner.
I favor Dillon Moore as a utility player, not as good an approach at the plate, but more power. Excellent range, good arm, runs good routes and should increase in power as he matures. Toro may be an excellent trade chip.
If this team could upgrade at third by trading for JRam, do it and trade Seager or let him go. You lose nothing in defense, gain 100 points in OPS, cut strikeouts in half, and add a pitch wrecking base stealer who is a real team leader. And you can still sign Semien and use Moore as utility. Or you can sign Merrifield and gain even more stolen bases though you don't get the home runs. Still you probably add more than one hundred hits by acquiring both JRam and Merrifield.
You would actually gain about 175 points in upgrading to JRam AND get five years younger vs. Seager. No brainer IF you can pull it off.
Merrifield is going to be 33 yo and is complete hacker with only 39 walks in 700+ PAs.

Is that his 80 acre lakeside horse ranch??
Re: Seager Option
Its a nice how but guessing worth only about $2-$3M. Pretty Frugal for a $100M man. My old house in Kirkland that I sold for 1.5M is now worth 2.1M only 16 months later!!

Plus Goldsmith on the broadcast last night saying this "may be Seager's last home-stand" as a Mariner. I don't hear the Root people do a lot of that sort of talk, so it stood out to me.
And yeah I know some of you here think it's great that he's leaving. I don't think it's great, I like him.

I like him to and would be fine if they picked him up and he hit 6th in the lineup after we sign a couple of big bats.Millikin wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 11:52 pmPlus Goldsmith on the broadcast last night saying this "may be Seager's last home-stand" as a Mariner. I hate to see him go, especially if the guy they sign to replace him in the lineup doesn't perform well here.Millikin wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 11:52 pmPlus Goldsmith on the broadcast last night saying this "may be Seager's last home-stand" as a Mariner. I don't think they will move on from many of these guys, which makes Seagers the only spot they're going to fill offensively, imo. They have to make it count.
I can see versatile guys that may fit their rotating position thing, guys like Bryant or Semien that can play a few different positions would fit in well.
They actually owe White money. These guys are so cheap they turned Dee Gordon into a clubhouse legend so they could justify keeping him and not having to pay his replacement also.
They will point to the success that giving Kelenic all of those at bats is finally having as evidence that all White needs is his full year in the lineup.
