Considering that they traded 2 top prospects for Barrios, my guess is they tried pretty hard. Must be nice to have a GM going to work to land superstars for your entertainment.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 6:36 amThey tried huh... That's great, that's worth a bucket of spitSeattleSportsRUs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 5:30 amBlue Jays tried to add JRam.
Our GM says that he "wants to add talent."
Oh to be a fan of a team that actually wants to win.

Yeah, who knows, guess it wasn't hard enough.
Re: Offseason Plans
Totally agree that they lack transparency in the calculation. They could make it so much simply and less black boxish. That's the major flaw.Vogelbomb wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 2:11 amOf course defense is in there, but my point is how much? I can't see the amount of defensive value being given. When the WAR number is shown there's no breakdown of the how and why told to you as an analyst coming there to evaluate a player. That's the problem.
Not to mention the discrepancy between Fangraphs and Baseball Reference. Can either site tell you how they calculate their WAR numbers? Then c'mon and do it!
And finally, WAR is supposed to be "above replacement" so what is the "replacement" level barometer you are using? Certainly their is a differing value from SS to 2b to LF to CF to RF. Not every replacement player from one position to the next is going to perform the same.
Bryce's WAR should be compared to players like Kyle Tucker, Mitch Haniger and Alex Verdugo meaning the defensive element of his WAR should be factored in terms of his RF contributions not overall outs compared to every other fielder. Clearly players playing up the middle are going to do better in that regard and players like Bryce or Mitch Haniger should not be penalized because they don't take as many chances or get hit as many balls.

2B and 3B are much closer offensively than you're giving them credit. We have equal holes at each position imo.SeattleSportsRUs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:24 amI just don't understand this idea moving Toro to 3B.
Is Toro magically going to hit .270/.360/.440 next year and develop a better arm?
How on earth can people not see that 3B is quite literally the biggest hole where we can make a major upgrade? I swear if JRam or another major 3B isn't playing for this team next year and a .700 OPS Toro is I will have lost a lot of faith in the direction of this team.
Toro a 2B and barely passable right now at that.
Here are the #1, #5, #10, and #15 ranked 2B and 3B by OPS among players with 300+ PA:
#1:
2B: Trea Turner .911
3B: Austin Riley .898
#5
2B: Johnathan India .835
3B: Kris Bryant .835
#10
2B: Ozzie Albies .799
3B: Jeimer Candalario .795
#15

Agree though I don't think there are many that will be fine with Toro at 3rdSeattleSportsRUs wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 8:24 amI just don't understand this idea moving Toro to 3B.

Re: Offseason Plans
FG considers 3B and 2B equal in terms of Positional adj. That surprised me a bit as I thought 2B would be considered more difficult.bpj wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 1:54 pm2B and 3B are much closer offensively than you're giving them credit. it might take different skills, not sure one would be more difficult...Its interesting that 3d base use to be considered the redheaded step child, i don't think anymore
Re: Offseason Plans
Interestingly some of the greatest and memorable defensive performances in history have come at 3B with Brooks Robinson and Graig Nettles.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 3:55 pmit might take different skills, not sure one would be more difficult...Its interesting that 3d base use to be considered the redheaded step child, i don't think anymore

Re: Offseason Plans
Would be ok with Kris Bryant at third it’s going to cost big but the first 3 yrs could be epic. Ok with Schwarber. As a Dh and not thrilled with Scherzer with his age but possibly the best short term fit
Re: Offseason Plans
Scwarber is good Lewis insurance he get injured again. Or he could play 1B and move France back to 3B or 2B.Coeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Fri Oct 08, 2021 4:12 pmWould be ok with Kris Bryant at third it’s going to cost big but the first 3 yrs could be epic. Yeah that is why I prefer Gausman who is 30. He likes SF but they didn't extend him so their is a chance. I will be Gobsmacked if we sign a top 5 FA Starter thought. I think JD will fill that internally or maybe via trade.
