I just don't understand this idea moving Toro to 3B.

Is Toro magically going to hit .270/.360/.440 next year and develop a better arm?

How on earth can people not see that 3B is quite literally the biggest hole where we can make a major upgrade? I swear if JRam or another major 3B isn't playing for this team next year and a .700 OPS Toro is I will have lost a lot of faith in the direction of this team.

Toro a 2B and barely passable right now at that.
2B and 3B are much closer offensively than you're giving them credit. We have equal holes at each position imo.

Here are the #1, #5, #10, and #15 ranked 2B and 3B by OPS among players with 300+ PA:

#1:
2B: Trea Turner .911
3B: Austin Riley .898

#5
2B: Johnathan India .835
3B: Kris Bryant .835

#10
2B: Ozzie Albies .799
3B: Jeimer Candalario .795

#15
2B: Kolten Wong .783
3B: Ryan McMahon .775

2B:

3B:

Yeah, I mean 3B numbers were down this year, but traditionally 3B's hit far better than 2B's.

That said, Trea Turner isnt a 2B, he's a SS and one of the best in the game. He's hung .900+ OPS season multiple times - they just weren't going to tell Seager to move positions when he got there.

Jonathan India is also not a 2B, he's a 3B playing 2B because of Eugenio Suarez. Suarez also had OPS years of .930 and .892 in 2019 and 2018. He OPS'd 1.268 in Sept/Oct after a career downer for 5 months, but he's a much better hitter than India when he's right.

Marcus Semien is also not a 2B, he's a SS playing there because of Bo Bichette.

There are many players playing out of position for the top teams because their entire infield is OPSing around .800+.

Do the M's have that luxury? Nope. They have a wet paper bag at SS who OPS's around .700 in Crawford, we don't know if Toro is a .680 OPS hitter or if he is magically going to turn into a .783 or .775 OPS hitter like the 15th rated 2B you just mentioned. If Toro can hit to a .775 at 3B then I've got no issue, but we don't know if he's going to do that.

Hell man, if I'm the Dipoto I'm trading for both Jose Ramirez and Ketel Marte - stick Ramirez at 3B and Marte at 2B. I'm then spending free agent money on a DH and starting pitching. You get 2 years of JRam, extend him. You get 3 years of Marte.

1. Ketel Marte 2B - .900+ OPS
2. Ty France 1B - .800+ OPS
3. Jose Ramirez 3B - .900+ OPS
4. Kyle Schwarber DH - .870+ OPS
5. Mitch Haniger RF -.800 + OPS (add JRod to the fold)
6. Kyle Lewis CF - .800 + OPS
7. Jarred Kelenic - Hope he's turned the corner to an .800+ OPS
8. Cal Raleigh C - Hope he's turned the corner to a .700+ OPS.
9. JP Crawford SS -.700+ OPS

You don't see the Jays, Astros, Red Sox, White Sox, Dodgers passively screwing around with their lineup. Why should the Mariners? GET SERIOUS.

This "we're going to try to add talent" crap is nonsense. The best teams in baseball don't "add talent," they add superstars.

Highschool sweethearts, credits her with his success. Maybe it's better not having your players running around chasing girls, focus on their jobs

A comment I posted on MLB Trade Values to the guy who runs it:

"While we’re on the topic of values – any reason why Marco Gonzales still has a negative 5 trade value? He rebounded to finish 2021 with a 3.97 ERA after a stellar second half.

Last 4 years: 3.97, 3.10, 3.99, 4.00 ERA’s

How’s a guy who routinely pitches under a 4.00 ERA and making modest money: $5.75 million in 2022, $6.75 million in 2023 and $12.25 million in 2024, have negative trade value?

Yet German Marquez posts a 5.38 ERA on the road this year, a 6.12 ERA in the 2nd half, is only 2 years younger than Marco and is making $11.3 and $15.3 million the next 2 years - and he’s got a trade value of 66!?"

Seems like you've got a good point.

Has to be a one man show running on spreadsheet formulas to assign values that are closer to the nerds projections than reality.
