also keep in mind that, at least in previous years, the play-calls were getting in WAY too late so that RW's opportunity to read the D and check out of it was very rarely an available option. from casual observation that seems to be less of an issue this year, but for previous years you can't fairly put that on Russ. If indeed that has improved this year, needs to shake off the previous years' conditioning to realize he actually finally has that option now.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 5:49 pmGood point. But, based on what happened last year? Who do you think is more likely to be the reason they aren't calling plays that attack a light box and deep safety? If there is no game plan to attack this, why is that not on the person responsible for game planning? Sorry, this is a Pete Carroll issue, which is why no matter who the OC is? We have this issue.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 3:32 pmCarroll isn't the only common denominator. Wilson isn't checking out of low percentage pass plays and needs to start taking heat for that.
Take away Lynch and the read option? This offense has been pedestrian, besides the end of the year run when we decided to go with a quick passing attack. Do you really believe that knowing all we know, it was Bevell that decided he didn't 'want to break records anymore and switch back to what didn't work?

Completely agree with your take. Seattle offense has looked exactly the same for ten years - except for the season opener vs the Indianapolis Colts. There are three common denominators - Wilson, PC, and Bobby Wagner. Wagner rarely plays offense, so let's eliminate his culpability. Now we are down to PC and RW. RW has all the authority in the world to make adjustments at the line - it's actually a pretty common part of the job. Sarcasm intended.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 6:27 pmRight now, my sense of who is most responsible for the plays that are being executed on the field is shifting toward RW and is at least equal to the blame i put on PC. What is going to happen if Wilson decided to call his own game? Is he going to be benched? Is Carroll going to call him out in the media? Probably not, so if RW is not running things in accordance with Carroll's philosophies over an extended period, i am forced to assume that is largely on him.
I realize you would probably argue Carroll's offensive philosophy is garbage, but that isn't relevant. Wilson didn't adhere to it vs Green Bay.
We have seen the defense rise to the occasion recently, so that side of the ball is getting coached up, while the offense has the same limitations and tendencies we have seen since 2013. Is it possible that PC is handcuffing the OC? It seems likely. Is it to mask RW's limitations? It's possible. PC's overly conservative nature may be an attempt to minimize risk for RW. It may be he's too hands on. Regardless of any of that - the QB has the final say on every play - and bears responsibility for it's implementations and execution.
The only two consistencies are PC and RW. Is it the chicken or the egg? Regardless of the answer - the bigger problem is I think it's driving fans away - watching the same exact fucking thing for ten years - and the same exact mistakes and the same predictability. It's become intolerable to watch.

I've lately wondered if the extra time spent in the huddle in prior years wasn't used to communicate multiple options for the next play, and once at the line the best option of those was then chosen with a simple (short) call. Why is it always assumed that a single play is sent in and then, when they're at the line, the QB has to figure out the best option from a vast array of possibilities and make a lengthy audible? Having never played the game this might be a silly question.57reasons wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 7:01 pmalso keep in mind that, at least in previous years, the play-calls were getting in WAY too late so that RW's opportunity to read the D and check out of it was very rarely an available option. from casual observation that seems to be less of an issue this year, but for previous years you can't fairly put that on Russ. It appears to always circle back to PC interfering with the offense. Same offense for 10 years with multiple coordinators... something doesn't add up.

By the way, RW is last in the NFL amongst starting QB's in 3rd down completion %. The offense is broken.

A fair question there, but consider further that even if that is the case, you still need time at the LOS to identify what the D is doing. often that requires putting a man in motion, requiring even more time. It doesnt do any good to have multiple play options called if you dont have time at the LOS to determine which option is best.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Wed Nov 17, 2021 7:20 pmI've lately wondered if the extra time spent in the huddle in prior years wasn't used to communicate multiple options for the next play, and once at the line the best option of those was then chosen with a simple (short) call. It would seem from these stats maybe we should have run the ball more. But, they should be using these as the game goes along.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 7:33 amThey didn't run enough, it was the same thing as last season, packers selling out to stop the pass, challenging them to run and the hawks wouldn't do it

yeah, that would be the issue, a well run offense would seem to be one that took advantage of what the defense was giving them
