The owners calling for mediation was clearly a delaying tactic designed to push negotiations closer to opening day. This is the entire strategy. This is why, after initiating the lockout, they waited six weeks to reopen negotiations with the players. If the owners wanted to end the lockout, they would be making more meaningful counteroffers to the players, but they are not.

What's hard to understand about this situation is that the differences seem so easy to resolve. This is mostly about how much players get paid in years 1-3. This is not an insurmountable issue. But owners don't seem to want to give much on this point. Would allowing arbitration after year 2 be such a terrible financial burden? Obviously, if you agreed to that, it would include a scale, which would have to be negotiated as well.

I wonder how much this is about Rob Manfred, his position among the owners, and the promises he's made them with this lockout. It seems personal to me, that Manfred needs to make sure he wins and that the players know he's won.

Why can't you hate trump and consider the media biased? But I don't see that as bias, I see it as you often claim, lazy
I saw that tweet when it came out and that was my thought as well. Someone at AP wrote something and didn't think too hard about the phrasing.
Exactly. To go all conspiracy theory and accuse the writer is in the bag for the owners is just a bit crazy. And technically what he said was true despite it making it seem like it was the players fault.

Whenever Trump suggested the media was biased which we all now know that it was guys like Law screamed, "Attack on Freedom of the Press!!!"

Now that the MSM puts out something that he disagrees with they are biased! lol
A forum poster who reports that Trump merely "suggested the media was biased" is biased, lazy or both:

I didn't say he merely suggested. I said whenever he suggested. A media that pretends to be neutral but is clearly biased does a huge disservice to the people imo. Some might call it being an enemy to the people but regardless its a huge reason why we are in the situation we are currently in.

The closest to an unbiased media is the new WGN. They try to air all options associated with a given topic without being biased. Now occasionally you will see some of their bias come out but at least they are trying.

Jon Heyman
@JonHeyman
MLB owners meet Tuesday-Thursday in Orlando, where they will regroup. The union expectation is a new MLB offer will come soon, and presumably that happens after the owners convene. It’s obviously getting late with spring training originally scheduled to start 10 days from today.

I can see that. I think when some of these guys get to a level where an extra hundred mil or two doesn't really matter much any more, the only thing left that does matter is winning. And for some, winning the negotiations might mean more than winning on the field.....

It doesn't seem personal at all to me. Players want more, more, more. It is just that simple. When 2020 came along and they were "negotiating" for the partial year many of the players put it on the record they wanted their full pay even though it was known they would play less than 1/2 the games and with little to no in-person attendees and revenue. Taking the players side and going it is soooo easy just to give them a higher initial salary and earlier Arby raises, anddddd give them less ability to manipulate service time,,,, and let them hit free agency earlier, and somehow do away with the tank and rebuild because being decisive and resetting is """""Bad for baseball :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: :roll: and do away with the lux tax that has taken some teams like the Yanks and Dodger from ,,, and Jeez fn christ dude pull your head out.
