Today ends the first 10% of the season. To me what has been a pleasant surprise has been JP raking. I thought he had peaked after last year to be a .260ish hitter and would have figured he'd do about the same. Also, Murphy has been a man possessed this week. He is just absolutely ripping the ball.

What has been a disappointment to start the year is no one in the OF is hitting over .200. I think they have rushed both JK and Julio and both should be sent back down to rediscover making contact with the baseball.

What are your early surprises and disappointments?

Julio has been fine. I don't think he needs to go down. He'll continue to get better

Biggest disappointment by far has been Winker. I obviously expected Julio to hit better but he seems to be coming around so not too worried. He is hitting .265 with a .342 OBP the past 9 games. JK is what he is so no disappointment there. There is literally nobody better than those two so pointless to send either down.

Biggest positive surprises are JP, France and Murphs Bats. Pitching has been exactly what I expected.

When sorting Teams by WAR, the Mariners rank 1st offensively and 23rd for Pitching.

And feels like there is a lot of room for improvement on both sides of the ball. Currently sitting on a +17 run differential.

I was worried France may settle somewhere below his performance last season. Nice to see his bat stay hot even if the glove hasn't been as stellar this year.

JP taking another step forward is great to see. If Murphy could go back to the monster he was a couple years ago it would be yuge.

Very clever indeed. I like those gamethreads with some forethought. Thx!
Sometimes you're in a rush just to pop one out before the deadline. :D

Curious why you thought that about France. Only time he struggled last year was when he tried to play through a wrist injury.
