Seager
Re: Seager
Yep. Is the 15 million in 2022 a team option right now that becomes a player option with a trade?

Re: Seager
It becomes fully vested with a trade so Kyle would have to play for the team he was traded to as opposed to having the option to becoming an FA that a player option would provide.

Re: Seager
OK, but can he waive his 2022 deal if he's traded, and would that have to be at the time of the trade? What about if Mariners want to keep for 2022, they have a club option so he won't automatically be a free agent of he isn't traded, right?

Re: Seager
My understanding is that he can't waive it if traded. That would be tantamount to a no trade clause and I haven't heard that mentioned. If the M's want to keep him for 2022 they just pay the $15MM or $20MM as the case may be.Juliooooo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 5:57 pmOK, but can he waive his 2022 deal if he's traded, and would that have to be at the time of the trade? Re: Seager
He can waive it if he wants but Divish doesn't think so. If a contender came in for him I am not so sure.
It seems unrealistic to think that he’d forgo exercising his player option and walking away from a minimum $15 million in a season. Seager would be 35 years old in that final option year.
Re: Seager
You would think that if he's doing well enough the Mariners wasnt to keep him, that the extra 5 million incentive will kick in(given it's typically a performance based incentive). So will Seager be worth 20 million in 2022? Will the Ms have a cheaper iron ready by then? At least we'll have 2 seasons before Mariners need to make that decision, assuming they don't trade him.

Re: Seager
You listed 2 players that I've heard anyone say they think can stick at short. All 5 are generally considered utility players though. A starter at second is not "blocking" utility players.ice99 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 3:19 pmThere are a lot of players than can play 2B. I think they'll have to package guys with Mallex, Dee and Dom to make trades with them although possibly 2 together. Maybe they trade Haniger instead of Santana. Really it's only Kikuchi,
Crawford and Vogelbach that I'm 95% sure I'd keep among guys up most of the year. Probably Seager because of the contract and his value being closer to it than actual albatrosses that people keep suggesting he be traded for. Wil Myers and Jacoby Ellsbury aren't even close to comparable.
Re: Seager
Not if you want them to have regular playing time. I'd trade Dee this offseason.Wishhiker wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 6:37 pmYou listed 2 players that I've heard anyone say they think can stick at short. Not sure how anyone could possibly argue otherwise.ice99 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 7:10 pmNot if you want them to have regular playing time. I'd trade Dee this offseason.
Re: Seager
I wanted Dee gone at the deadline, that's not the point. I also think he's playing way too much now but understand the attempt to prop his numbers as he has been hitting well for over a month now.
*I accidentally said Short when I meant 2nd...oops... Maybe because Dee started at short the other day.
