I do think pedigree should be a part of it. I mean I am not advocating Charlie Welch jumps Ford because his BA is 10 points higher or he hits two more HRs or anything like that but when you are talking a first and second round pick on the same team, that one round difference really shouldn't matter after a full season.
I don't think it will. Arroyo is going to make a huge jump. I would be surprised if he isn't top 100 by midseason

I disagree with that premise. A HS kid taken in the first round should not be compared with a SEC Pitcher about anything. As Welch is older and had lots of college experience I would expect him to be further along even at the end of the season. Ford is in his first year playing, away from home, and against people older than he is. Let the kid get settled in and figure out how to be a professional baseball player and then watch him grow.

Yeah that's what I said. Arroyo is the perfectly reasonable comp, not Welch or any other college pick.

I think it's clear Arroyo has a more advanced bat than Ford, but we're also talking about the California League, which is extremely hitter-friendly.

Which makes Ford's sub 700 OPS slightly more alarming.

Jarred Kelenic continues to mash at Tacoma, going 3-for-5 Sunday with a home run, double and five RBI, for a .348 batting average and 1.052 OPS:

Kelenic will figure it out at the MLB level. Right?

It really comes down to what kinds of pitches he's hitting. If he's just mashing fastballs, I doubt it will translate much at the MLB level.

Yeah, it's hard to know what to make of AAA stats right now.
