I hope to sneak away from the office for a few hours this afternoon to see righthander Bryce Miller pitch for the Everett AquaSox against the Hillsboro Hops:

In 10 appearances (nine starts) with Everett this year Miller has posted a 1.86 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and .177 BAA in 53.1 innings with 70 strikeouts and 17 walks. A fourth-round pick in 2021, Miller is a bit old for High A as the Texas A&M product approaches his 24th birthday in August.

Yeah, I'm not buying the nonsense that Glaser was spewing in that response. I wonder how many times he's even watched Marte in person this year. Frankly, I just saw video of Marte homering this week and he looked to be in fine shape. Granted he had his uniform on so it's not possible to tell if he's rocking a six pack and well defined upper body, but you can tell he doesn't have any extra weight jiggling around him as he runs, no bulge around the stomach area, no love handles, etc.

I just think Marte is a big kid, looks a lot like Manny Machado, and his struggles this year are probably due to babip luck.

I arrived in the second inning as a work meeting ran late, but righthander Bryce Miller went six innings, trailing 1-0 after surrendering four hits and one run (a solo homer) while striking out four and walking two.

Miller's fastball touched 96 mph on several occasions (I was not watching the radar monitor closely). Miller got out of trouble in the sixth inning after he picked up a dribbler in front of the plate and threw way over the head of the first baseman. It was correctly scored an infield single with no error because a fortunate bounce prevented the runner from advancing to second. That runner, however, stole second and advanced to third on another single by a Hops hitter, who then stole second himself. With one out and runners on second and third Miller induced a pop up and a ground out to end the inning and his day.

Noelvi Marte did not play but his buddy, Alberto Rodriguez, rapped into two double plays. The AquaSox ran into two outs before I left at the seventh-inning stretch.

After I left the AquaSox scored two in the eighth and two more in the ninth to prevail 4-2.

Good stuff. Thanks again! Was Marte eating Ice cream sandwiches and donuts in the dugout??? ;)
