Been three straight seasons of quite the turnaround.

2020 started 7-18 and finished 20-15
2021 started 31-35 and finished 59-37
2022 started 29-39 and since went 46-19.

Combined that is starting 67-92 (.421/68 win pace) and then going 125-71 (.638/103 win pace)

Perhaps we begin the season with a sense of urgency in 2023 and we can compete with the Astros for a division title.

But as we all know, the organization feels games played in August and September are more important than those in April and May.

27 games to go for the M's
M's magic numbers to eliminate each team....

Oakland 2
Detroit 3
Kansas City 6
California Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Orange County 11
Texas 11
Boston 18
Chicago 21
Minnesota 22
Cleveland 23*
Baltimore 23
Toronto 28
Tampa Bay 29

*Cleveland is the division leader and will only be in play for the wildcard if caught for the division lead.
Might have to start adding the Yankees in here now that TB is making a race out of it.

Remaining Games

Destiny is very much in our own hands. But if we slip back over the next week or so, Houston might have a big part to play in the final rundown for the Wildcard race. They play a 4-game series in Baltimore that could prove to be very crucial. I won't say that we will be cheering for them, but we might be wanting them to do us a favour. For once, a Houston win or 10 might actually benefit the M's in this final stretch.

Other than Texas, TB faces a complete firestorm. Can't see us not having a better record than them given the massive disparities in closing schedules...

Its looking really, really good for a return to the playoffs.
These Magic numbers are for outright elimination and don't include tie breakers The M's have the tiebreaker over Baltimore. If the M's can just manage 13-13 for the rest of the year they will be at 90 wins and the Orioles would have to go 19-7 to get to 91 wins. Minnesota has the tie breaker so they would only need to tie the M's to advance. They would have to go 22-7 to get to 90 wins. I don't see that happening and I expect the M's to be better than .500 the rest of the way.

I don't know that I would necessarily consider Boston and New York tough competition any more at this point in the season. We saw what the M's just did to Cleveland. Those 6 games against Houston are probably the only ones where you would expect the Rays to drop a series. I Think they will be pushing us until the end.

Tampa and Toronto could end up knocking each other out. Not to mention Baltimore still has six games with Toronto themselves.

What should scare us is how we seem to end up letting down when we play poor competition. It wasn't that long ago that we split a two game series with the Nats and lost three game series to the Rangers and A's.

I was thinking the same thing. We just need to take care of business. Right now watch how the team gels together. Buy yeah, the Washington and Oakland series left me frustrated. Hopefully it was a wake up call to this team for the stretch run.

As we get closer, this club SHOULD get more tight knit.

Seemed to be what happened last year too. I think this year they started to gel and then, bam, went on a run. Weren't we close to ten games under at one point? This is crazy.
