Would you prefer they don't get anyone and have JK, Marlowe and Trammell play LF and DH?

No. My preference would be either go get a stud like Nimmo from FA and sign him to a mid-ish contract (I dunno - 5 years, $85MM).

AND/OR - trade for someone with a few years on their contract (like Reynolds for COF or Arraez for 2B).

They could afford to do one of each - empty their wallets and bleed the farm, and they would get good, solid, long term upgrades.

Look - rentals are good now and then - they serve a purpose. But JD's entire offseason offensive plan has been to trade for guys who have 1 year left. Great for year one of a rebuild. Not great for year 2 of a window of contention.

That would be great, but trading for a 1 year contract is much cheaper, and if signing a Free Agent, hard to find impact guys that only want 3-4 years. Its a big contract, over pay a mediocre bat for 3-4 years, or maybe get a 1 year guy like Conferto and hope that he performs well without the long term commitment.

I would much rather get the 1 year rental than stick with hoping that 2 of JK, Trammell, White and Marlowe can get regular AB.

How would you like to be Julio and be watching the offseason lack-of?
Someone said it on the forum already. They are just good enough to make the post-season again.
But beyond that....? Its a crapshoot. These owners are not willing to take that next level step.
What part of building a winner don't they understand?
The city has shown they will show up for the playoffs and give support and spend $$$.
They are not going to fill all those seats during the regular season unless the team is competing for the division.
Imho it's a combination of owners who are not really baseball people and Jerry with this delusion of grandeur on the cheap.
The team is profitable not necessarily successful.
