It's actually pretty good. Not great at the top, with 40 being our best. 8 in the top 180 is pretty good, then there is a drop off, but that next group can really climb next season. Sanchez, Montes, Arroyo, Locklear, Young, Ford. Any one of those guys can jump into the top 100 by seasons end.

Baseball Prospectus has Hancock as our #2 prospect. Here's the writeup:
The Report: Hancock didn’t make his first start of 2022 until mid-May due to a lat strain, something of a concern for a pitcher a year removed from arm fatigue and one who had durability concerns as a Dawg as well. Once Hancock took the mound, though, he didn’t miss a start for the rest of the season, throwing more innings than in any of his previous pro or college seasons and making a stirring appearance in the Futures Game.
Hancock’s arsenal remains largely unchanged, with a heavy, tailing mid-90s fastball aided by his low-three-quarters arm slot and two secondaries that project as plus in a firm two-plane slider and a diving, fading changeup. Hancock also has a smooth, clean delivery that he repeats well and supports his above-average command that borders on plus when he’s at his best. He has the frame of a workhorse starter if his body will cooperate with him, but even with his increased inning total in 2022, he still hasn’t ever eclipsed 100 innings. He also hasn’t proven to be much of a strikeout pitcher in pro ball, averaging just under a punchout an inning since he was drafted. He’s at the top of this list in part because the Mariners have graduated some of their best young players or, in the case of Noelvi Marte, dealt them away. But he’s also leading the pack because the building blocks for him to be an impact starter are still very much intact, and he’s not far from breaking through.
OFP: 55 / no. 3/4 starter
Variance: High. Hancock is still building toward a starter’s workload and still hasn’t shaken his durability concerns, but he hasn’t had any major decline in the stuff or command that made him a top-10 pick two years ago.
Jesse Roche’s Fantasy Take: On the surface, Hancock had a strong season, including the aforementioned impressive appearance at the Futures Game. However, his performance in Double-A was fairly pedestrian, including an elevated 5.31 FIP and a poor 13.1% K-BB%. Notably, his fastball shape causes it to miss few bats without generating many ground balls. So while Hancock can pump it up to the mid-90s, his fastball often plays down. As such, he lacks the type of fantasy upside to outweigh the ongoing health concerns, and he falls outside the top-100 dynasty prospects.

We just have to hope he develops. The Mariners were on him when he was 13 or 14 and I guess they saw something special. It's kind of a new thing for the Mariners to put most of their bonus pool on one guy and I guess we'll find out if it works out. He'll be in the DSL this year so we'll see some numbers and then hopefully next year they move him right into full season ball.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Fri Jan 13, 2023 11:10 pmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9-Ct_u2RM0

I just hope he's willing to give up switch hitting if he's much better as a right handed hitter. Weird is he had more power from that side. Hate to have a player from his weeker side 75 % of his AB

It's a given these guys are identified by 13-14, think it's earlier than that. Salsa was turning on 97mph fastballs at 14. That's how you get them signed, developing a relationship at an early age. Of course that is a local representativeGL_Storm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 2:24 amWe just have to hope he develops. Rated by who? That's just people saying stuff. There's a really, really, really long list of bonus babies from the Dominican that simply didn't develop. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they signed him. But the fact that he's "rated" so highly just doesn't mean that much.desbcoach wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 4:30 amCelestine is rated higher then Wander Franco wasGL_Storm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 14, 2023 2:24 amWe just have to hope he develops.
