Julio is chasing way to many pitches out of the zone and his SO rate is up, He needs a big talking to or day to dropped in line up,to send him a message. Much better eye last year and more patient Swap him and JP for a game or two as an awakening IMO

And Julio whiffs on a total mistake meatball. Yet another 1-run loss. These guys have lost their character and have literally stopped caring.
It sure seems like it. U have a Manager who sits there and doesn't fight for his player. On a bad call. Just sucks no one is really taking this team on their back. Horrible showing for 1-3 despite a Homer from Julio. Can't have that. Just another easy win that we continue to blow away

I was really hoping this wouldn't happen for at least a week.

Just reviewed Topa's inning on Baseball Savant and I'm really not seeing anything egregious. He allowed 4 hits to 4 batters and two runs scored against him. But the first two batters, most of the time won't hit the pitches that they hit. But then he did serve up meatballs to Realmuto and Bohm, which are mistake pitches obviously. But on another night he probably wouldn't have been in that situation because he would have had two outs already.

The elephant in the living room with our relievers is that nobody is worried about having to face any of our guys except a healthy Munoz. Everyone has to be basically spot on in terms of location or the ball is going to be put into play. I'm also beginning to wonder if the clubhouse is missing the veteran presence of Santana. My gut tells me he would be the guy to get Julio on track like he did with Cal last year.

I agree.

I think the way everyone was anointing Julio the second coming were extremely premature. He's an all or nothing player right now. He swings completely out of control and looks like he's trying to hit 600-foot HR's with every swing. I'm surprised the hitting coaches haven't tried to reel him in a bit (assuming they haven't) in an attempt to get him to swing more under control along with being much more selective at the plate. I know he has it in him because we saw it last year. He has a good eye but he's far too overanxious right now.

I personally have no confidence in him right now when he's at the plate. His SO and chase rate is alarming, including with the game on the line tonight when all he needed was a single to tie it. But of course he swings for the fences like he always does, even with two strikes, and strikes out to end the game.

Maybe he was reading too many articles in the offseason talking about how great he is. Someone needs to knock him down a notch and get him back to that hungry and humble player we saw last year. I'm really not liking the version I'm seeing thus far this year. Not at all.

I've lost count of how many times he's swung at ball 4 thus far this season.

In 2022 Julio had a 25.9% strikeout percentage. In Mar/April of 2022 his K% was 37.0% with an OPS of .544. He had 0 homeruns and 30 strikeouts.

He entered today with a K% of 24.3% and an OPS of .728 for 2023. He has 5 homeruns and 29 strikeouts.

Personally I think Julio's going to be ok. Even if he's not Aaron Judge his downside is probably about Mike Stanton for his career.
