Sure, its their bread and butter, developing relievers and trading them off

I don't mind it so long as they can get a significant bat in return. I like Sewald, but $8-10 million for a reliever who throws 91 mph and is prone to givign up the long ball in bad situations... seems like the right time to use his value to its max leverage.
Rays need serious pen help and have a bevy of 2B's at their disposal.
Trade Sewald for Brandon Lowe straight up.

Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Injuries to starters and their replacements yielding ERA's over 5.00 hasn't helped.
Bats have also really come back down to earth. They've gone .879 -- .778 -- .740 --.640 month by month via team OPS.
Perhaps who most exemplifies this trend...
Wander Franco: .909 -- .777 -- .729 -- .569

Yeah, don't remember the stat exactly but basically over the last month they have had the worst record in baseball. Some ride for fans, go from looking down at the rest of baseball to suddenly looking up at the rest of baseball.
Reminds me of the thing about being nice to the people you pass on your way up the success ladder. You're going to be seeing them again on your way back down.

Trading Sewald is the smart thing to do. They have a very small chance at the playoffs, he has a lot of value, and they need more hitters.
Problem is, it will completely destroy the locker room and they will gate the FO for giving up on the season and rightfully so. They didn’t spend in the off-season, so they both need more bats, and are outside looking in. That’s the perpetual cycle the FO is in by not spending money

Oh i don't know about destroying the locker room. The graveman deal was particularly emotional. Like with graveman there should be a replacement strategy. Even if they fall further back before the deadline, i don't think you just give up on the season. That doesn't look good
Re: The slightly too early trade deadline thread
Sewald is a lot more replaceable than a young SP being traded for a middling bat. That would be giving up on this season AND next season...
Can't believe it is even being discussed as a possibility.
