Breaking: Ohtani with a torn UCL, won't pitch, might not DH

Stanton cares mostly about money. Ohtani would be worth whatever he costs to bring in. They would also not have as much needed to go after guys like Geno and Teo, who combine to cost you about 28 million. Trust your development and don’t trade away the young hitters.

Good article on Ohtani's injury from The Wall Street Journal.

Until they pull him after the 6th with 95 pitches and you will be mad that they are cheap and trying to save 100K

Million dollars a start with a clause that they have to start him at least every 6th game if he is healthy...

Yeah, sucks to hear it. There goes the record offseason contract everyone was waiting to see drop. He'll still get paid, but he won't be touching the stratosphere many thought he would.
This idea that he'll just hit while his arm recovers is nonsense. Bryce Harper is the perfect example for this. He needed UCL surgery, got it in the offseason and was out until mid-May or so. His recovery timeline is a bit ridiculous. Ohtani maybe will take a few more weeks, who knows? But he would miss at least 2 months of next year if he gets surgery in the offseason.
I think you can expect him to be a good hitter for 6 years and pitch for maybe 4 years. That should be the thought process when entering into negotiations.

I think you do 1 million every 10 innings, or 2 million every 20. That keeps you from worrying about the minutia of every inning.

I think his deal will end up being a shorter team deal with a long term option so that the team will have a chance to gauge if he is able to regain his pitching form. Something like 3 years 100 Million with an option after year 3 that would kick him up into that 45-50 Million range for another 5 years.
