With guys like Ty, Geno, Kelenic, and Teoscar performing so far below what we hoped it's hard to pin any of the seasons problems on either Castillo or Julio imo.

The problem is the management putting all their assets toward pitching and trying to get by with subpar, flawed batting, now they have to wait at least 2 years before any significant help from the minors is coming up. If they wanted to just let the development happen, they should have done that. If they wanted to contend, then they should have added more hitting after the Castillo trade. It was a half effort just like the rebuild, and it’s leaving the team with a good team that will never truly be contenders. Now they will be forced to trade young pitching and some hitting prospects for a likely flawed hitter to give the appearance that they want to contend, but they won’t do enough to make a significant difference, and they will be left hoping that all the players play at the top of their potential so they can “contend.”

They have a control the zone philosophy, then trade for Teo and Geno, who lead the league in strikeouts. They aren’t committing to anything philosophically, except trying to save money.
