You want to trade JK? What I would find is a team that is actually on a limited budget, that might be interested in sacrificing at bats for the chance to develop an outfielder on the cheap, a rebuilding team. I can't see the Mets giving up as good a trade piece as Alonso for a player I can't see them having a use for

Mets have one good OFer in Nimmo. That is it. If they are intent on trading Alonso as has been public knowledge for months, JK is a perfect fit. Change of scenery all that jazz.

A perfect fit lol...then why isn't he a perfect fit in Seattle? I agree the Mets need another outfielder. To me them bringing JK to NYC as their starting left fielder would be the frying pan to the fire. Can't imagine what they see in that, and don't tell me cost savings lol

This certainly is the most update yet about Alonso's future with the team. He has developed into one of the best sluggers in all of baseball and a Mets fan favorite since debuting for the club in 2019. Although there is nothing set in stone and the two sides need to come to terms on a deal, this at least is an indication that the executive team expects him to be with the club moving forward.

Seems like the Mets may be taking a step back year as opposed to the dichotomous strategies of tearing it down to the studs or just buying top level talent and cobbling together an all star roster. In this sense, JK does seem like a good fit - young, controllable and still owning untapped and unrealized potential. Cohen has a sense of urgency around reaching the post season (unlike the M’s FO), so they may be taking a risk in bringing on an underperformer with hopes of turning him around, but maybe they’ll use that as leverage to buy low.

For JK - I’d guess he’d pee his pants to be back with the Mets. I seem to recall him being a little upset at the trade, and he doesn’t seem to have warmed to the organization since he arrived.

Fact is he doesn't have to say anything, you are the one that brought up public knowledge, so what is it exactly?

Your off season plan is pretty good, you can't stand a little criticism? I agree the Mets could use an outfielder, the relative value is probably okay. But you have to assume the Mets are working with the same information as you. You hate the idea of JK being the opening day outfielder for the mariners but the Mets are going to embrace it. The Mets a team the opposite of the mariners, happy to spend, driven to win. You have spent six months denigrating JK as a possibility as a mariner left fielder. Okay, I'm a Mets fan, convince me I should be excited to have him as a left fielder.

Yeah I definitely considered Soto but he would cost more both in terms of lives and treasure and would pushed payroll to almost $200M God forbid. Is he buddies with Julio? I hadn't heard that.

I get what you are saying in terms of me seemingly contradicting myself but I seem to be in the minority in my thinking about him. I think the Mets could sell it as we got back the guy we drafted fourth, he was once a top 3 prospect, he is only 24 yo! And he had a .750 OPS and is finally figuring it out! And if you compare his and Alonso's WAR on an equivalent per PA basis it is nearly identical. I bet most of our fanbase would be FURIOUS if we did that trade so while I would be doing cart wheels there would be MASSIVE pain on a more macro level.

Another reason I went with Alonso is I think Bellinger would be wasted at 1B. Could do Soto and Donovan in the corners but then we are back to France and Ford at 1B/DH. Total of 1 WAR last season.
