Gold Glove Finalists
Re: Gold Glove Finalists
Geno put up 2.2 WAR but a lot of that is 3B D. He is worth the $11M he will be paid next year so he is tradeable. But you either do that or leave him at 3B.
France only put up 0.7 WAR. Given all the holes I am sure they will sell that he will bounce back.

Hitting better than Ty France doesn't make ones production equal to a MLB 1st Baseman. It just make your bat better than another guy that shouldn't play 1st because his bat is dreadful. I'd like to replace every corner we have, IF and OF...and add a DH while we are at it. But, that won't happen. We'll add a below average bat to play one of those four spots, some guy that had a pretty good year two or three years ago, but is a bargain now...and then we will throw the rest of the trash we already have out there, and talk about platooning and how fresh they will be. I don't give a damn if the dog shit is fresh, it's still dog shit.
My thinking was not that Geno would suddenly turn into a gold glover with a simple change of scenery.
My thinking was that he's untradeable unless we basically pay 100% of his salary (and the fact that Jerry seems to have a man crush on him). Moreover, there are some super stud 3B out there - either by trade or FA. So if we moved Geno, that would free up 3B for, say, a Matt Chapman. Let Geno play 1B/DH with Ford and we've got a lefty and a righty combo. Trade France - he's likely the most moveable of the 3 of them.
Then again, we could keep Geno at third and get rid of Ty and get a legit 1B and DH. That works, too.
And yes, DT - shoveling shit from one corner of the yard to the other still leaves your yard stinking of dog shit. Best bet: toss it over the fence to the neighbor's yard.

Genos greatest asset right now is he’s an above average defensive 3B. Even a gold glove 1B doesn’t bring as much value as his 3B defense. He doesn’t got enough to play 1B or DH. If he’s the alternative to try France, it’s probably a wash. If you can’t get a 1B, and can get an awesome hitting 3B, sure, but I think moving him decreases the value he brings.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 6:22 pmAll good points, guys.Michael K. wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 4:41 pmI just feel like if his bat doesn't translate to 3rd, it's not going to translate to 1st, is it? Yep you would totally be negating the value added by bringing in the new 3B.

Don't know if you guys have been watching, but these have been some pretty enjoyable playoff games.
Teams that try/tried to win. Another underdog story in Arizona.
Never thought I'd root for the Rangers, but they built their team exactly how Dipoto should have built the M's, imo.

Don't get the angst over Geno. He's a league average 3rd baseman signed at a reasonable cost. They are probably lucky to have him. They have bigger fish to fry and have another season before they need to address 3rdJuliooooo wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 8:52 pmGenos greatest asset right now is he’s an above average defensive 3B. Good points Donn. Would be hard to consider 3B one of our problems.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 6:32 amDon't get the angst over Geno. DH, 1B and corner outfield are where we need to see improvement.
Also a good point on the other side that maybe now is the time to grab a 3B while there may be some available and move on from Geno.
Dipoto's got some work to do to make this a serious lineup.
Re: Gold Glove Finalists
Geno himself isn’t the problem, it’s that he’s hitting 3rd instead of 7th, and he’s a barely league average hitter. Upgrade other positions and he’s not a problem. Really in him the 3-4 spot in the order, there’s issues. Move him to 1B/DH, he’s got no value.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 6:32 am
