Yankees supposedly interested in Margot

Margot seems to be exactly the type of player the Yankees have favored over the past few years. He has a few tools — doesn’t strike out very much (albeit with just a 93 wRC+ in 2023), good outfield range, and speed on the bases — and they obviously think they can add or polish one more. If it doesn’t pan out, once Domínguez comes back to center field, the Yankees can push Margot into a backup/fourth outfielder role. Of course, that still leaves the as-yet-undecided job of left fielder open.

Bummer struck out an above-average 29.2% of batters faced this year. He has fanned just under 27% of opponents over the course of his career. He averaged 94.5 MPH on his sinker (a solid mark for a left-hander) and missed bats against hitters of either handedness. While he’s no longer posting ground-ball numbers reminiscent of peak Zach Britton, he kept the ball on the ground at a lofty 58.2% clip. That’s the 10th-highest rate among relievers who logged at least 50 innings

3. Mariners
The Mariners have had three straight 88-plus win seasons and have backfilled their farm system impressively quickly following the graduations of Julio Rodriguez, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, Cal Raleigh and others. Righthander Bryce Miller is unlikely to go anywhere, but fellow young starter Bryan Woo would be a compelling topper in a potential trade package for Soto. The Mariners system is flush with talented young position players, including Top 100 Prospects Harry Ford, Cole Young and Tyler Locklear, and as well as young international signees Lazaro Montes, Michael Arroyo and Felnin Celestin. Woo and Locklear would fill two of the Padres’ biggest long-term holes (starting pitching and first base, respectively) and the Mariners have plenty of intriguing young position players at the lower levels they can offer to sweeten a deal.
