That's the sort of trade ammo the cards have
Throughout the offseason, there is going to be plenty of chatter about what the club will do. Rumors already have been swirling about the organization's top free agent targets. While free agency will be the easiest option to add to the roster, St. Louis will be busy in the trade market and Nolan Gorman, Tommy Edman, Brendan Donovan, and Alec Burleson all have garnered some interest, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Derrick Goold.
None of the four are RH other than Edman who is a SH. He also had a .710 OPS in 2023. So wise of Jerry to focus on RH bats.

So their plan is to sign a bunch of old pitchers with decent ceilings but worst in the league floors and hope it works. Something tells me it won’t.

With Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson getting $10M and $11M it sets a realistic trade market for Marco. Doesn't seem like they'd have to eat much of the contract at this point.

FanGraphs projects Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson with 2024 WAR of 2.3 and 2.1, respectively, in 31 starts apiece while projecting Marco Gonzales with a 2024 WAR of 0.4 in 36 appearances, including 19 starts:

Lynn is seen as a baseline signing
Lynn is durable but coming off a career-worst 5.73 ERA in 2023 for the White Sox and Dodgers. His salary now represents a baseline from which the many other pitchers relevant to the Mets -- Luis Severino, Kyle Gibson, Sean Manaea, Michael Wacha, take your pick -- can negotiate

Cool wizard stats.

Since 2021 Marco has the best ERA of the three. The only thing they seem to be better at is K% and eating more innings.

Marco is 5 years younger than both guys.

I just hope we have zero of them on our team opening day.

Go back a year farther and Marco still has the best ERA of the group.

Interesting how much K% drives WAR when Marco has been more effective at preventing runs from being scored.
