What they would look at are his pitches, they would look to make adjustments in how he chucks them.
Why didn't they do that with Weaver and Leone and Gott and O Brien and Campbell and Romo and Middleton and Duggar and Montero and Will Vest?

Seems so easy.
Jerry gets a lot of credit for the hidden gems he finds, but not enough attention gets paid to how much trash he sifts through to find them at the expense of the teams record.

This season we had 17 players with negative fWAR. Altogether they accounted for -4.7 WAR across 622 plate appearances (10.0% of teams total 6201 PA) and 110.2 innings pitched (7.7% of team total 1449.1 IP).

I wanted Torres last season and he put up 3 WAR with a .800 OPS. Jerry thought Wong was the way to go. I guess it is because he has access to such better information than us dumb peons do.

mlb trade values disagrees that Hancock would be enough so let's throw in one of our better relievers to get it done because we can just make a new one to replace him out of some bum that can throw a baseball really fast.

Where has Yamamoto said he wanted to play near Japan? The only actual statement I know of was his agent saying he wants to play with other japanese players. Don't believe the mariners have any at the moment
An MLB.com columnist does not list Seattle among 11 likely destinations for Yoshinobu Yamamoto:

From Monday's column by Jim Bowden at The Athletic:
The Mariners are not expected to “play” at the dollar amounts it’s going to take to sign either Shohei Ohtani or Cody Bellinger, so it appears they’ll try to lengthen their lineup by landing multiple players who can make more contact than last year’s team, which struggled with swing-and-miss and strikeouts. (Seattle hitters were second in the majors in strikeouts.) The Mariners will focus on younger players in the 24- to 26-year-old range with at least three years of control left.

One offseason plan calls for the Mariners to acquire Jung Hoo Lee, Spencer Steer and Eloy Jimenez, hitters ages 25, 26 and 27 with lower strikeout rates and at least three years of team control:

;)
FWIW today Baseball Trade Values minimally downgraded the surplus trade value of Eloy Jimenez from $2.2 million to $1.4 million after valuing Jimenez at a negative $5.9 million as recently as November 23:

The trade value of Jimenez is difficult to assess although one Chicago blogger thinks Jimenez is worth a Top 100 prospect-plus:

Why are you so in love with Eloy Jiminez?

He's always hurt.

Rumor is that he's lazy and not a good clubhouse guy.

In a diverse community not everyone appreciates a good laugh.

A year later a reluctance to pursue an injury-prone White Sox hitter is understandable.

Any acquisition carries risk but Eloy Jimenez's higher risk lowers his acquisition cost. If the Mariners landed Jung Hoo Lee, Spencer Steer and Eloy Jimenez, actuarial tables would suggest that at least one would be an absolute bust. The Mariners would hope that the bust label would not attach to two or even three of the newcomers.

But that's the risk whether we're talking Eloy Jimenez, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rendon or Giancarlo Stanton.
