True. He also trained U.S. Marines, with water drills, diving, swimming, breath control, etc. "Twice a week over a two-year period during the war, he trained Marines in San Pedro, California, by demonstrating how to make high-falling escape dives and how to swim in water enflamed with oil or gasoline." Born Hungarian, but a true American.

Weissmuller is also credited with saving many lives from boating accidents with his swimming skills and bravery.

And no, he wasn't a great actor, pretty stiff........but when you're raised by gorillas and chimpanzees.........what do you expect?
