Whilst this forum is rightly pointing to the lack of offense, let’s not forget that the starting pitching hasn’t exactly got off to the start that justifies all the smoke blown up their arses either.

And that is Jerry's crown jewel and the only thing that justifies his existence. He better hope Logan has a good outing tomorrow.

We have [faced] a lot of good edge pitches that are, frankly, really good pitches that you can’t sit there and whine about,” Dipoto said Wednesday, about an hour before the start of the Mariners’ 8-0 loss to the Guardians. “The opposing pitchers made really good pitches. Our guys don’t feel like we’re at DEFCON 1. They’re at the end of Week 1, and we had a slow week offensively.”

“I’ll count this week as something of an anomaly in the way we have been approached,” Dipoto said. “ … Nobody hits the good, well-placed breaking ball. Nobody. And if you do it, you probably don’t do it consistently. And we saw a lot of that for six days.”

“The unique part of the start to our season is we opened up against roughly six consecutive pitchers who all have exceptional ability to spin the ball,” Dipoto said. “And in some of those cases, exceptional ability to spin it and to locate it, and that’s the thing that [Cleveland’s Shane] Bieber does as good as anybody.


“You don’t get a lot of fastballs to hit against those teams. And when we did get fastballs to hit, for the most part we did what you’re supposed to do with them.”

“In years past, when our offense has struggled, it looks like an offense that is struggling,” he said. “This year, our offense — we’re swinging at the right pitches, we’re grinding through at-bats. You know, this is the big leagues and the other guys are good too. I think our at-bat quality has been really good.

That's interesting there, that could be checked pretty easily. How many pitches are they seeing

Don't think it's a secret that a steady flow of breaking balls is pretty effective, but it's in the execution. You miss with them, fall behind on the count and there you are, in a hole having to go to a fastball with the hitter basically sitting on it. That's what was interesting about Dipoto saying they had good at bats. They weren't bailing the pitcher out swinging at breaking balls out of the strike zone

One playoff appearance since 2001, an offense that has repeatedly been futile, especially hitting in the very house they built (That drove away Griffey by the way), and seeing strikeout after strikeout for a vast number of years?
