He did the same thing with the M's last year and they called him up.
The Reds DH has a .579 OPS.
I don't see why they wouldn't give him a ML contract.

I had the exact opposite reaction when I looked at the Free agent class. Goldschmit and Bell have been worse than France so far this season. Hoskins and Alonso are at a .786 OPS, Bellinger at .760, Rizzo at .720. Put em in T-Mobile for half their games and those numbers drop. I am not going to be in any hurry to drop a huge pile of cash on a 1B who will likely give you an OPS in the mid .700s. The only one who I would be interested in bringing in is Walker who is at .873. Even at that he will be 34 next year and likely to start declining, so I wouldn't be interested in any more than a 3 year deal.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 6:14 pmI like Parades. A lot. But you're right that we would be diluting our starting pitching to land him, especially since he has about 3 more years before he is a UFA.
That would make Rojas an IF utility guy which is fine. He's everything I was hoping Toro would be, but was not.
I don't think we have enough in the farm to get 2 guys off that list. I'd rather get a long term stud at 3B, hope that France pulls it together and focus on a 1B FA in the offseason which is totally stacked. Cody Bellinger and Rhys Hoskins have opt outs, and then there's Goldshmidt, Alonso, Walker, Rizzo and Bell.

Like I said in a game thread, they all cheaped out this year. Instead of Driveline, they went to "Honest Al's Hitting Hut."D-train wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 6:36 pmBetween him and JP, Driveline stock is tanking.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 6:10 pmSo he's actually gotten worse since all the Driveline fanfare

Why didn't the reds just call him up a couple weeks ago. Teams are so Fucking stupid and slow to take deliberate action. Paralysis by analysis and so afraid to admit mistakes throwing good money after bad...Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2024 7:55 pmHe did the same thing with the M's last year and they called him up.

Including this season, Mike Trout has averaged just 275 plate appearances per season over the past 5 seasons.

Yeah, I don't know. This one is particularly head scratching when you consider that Martini wasn't even invited to big league camp at Spring Training and only played 29 games for them last year (albeit quite well). He was making $750K... perhaps it's a wait and see if he produces similar magic as 26 games is a small sample size, but I'd figure he has a pretty short leash.D-train wrote: ↑Thu May 02, 2024 4:29 pmWhy didn't the reds just call him up a couple weeks ago. It's not like the M's who were paying Pollock and Wong way more money.
I'd take Ford over France today in a heart beat... the defense can't get much worse. Ford is a lefty and I have no idea why the M's were so obsessed with signing so many right handed bats. T-Mobile is not a righty park. The M's have faced like 4 lefty starters all season.
Forever perplexed by the mind of Jerry...
Re: Early trade candidates
People just assume Ford is a bad 1B because of his size. He is average and better than France.

Re: Early trade candidates
btw why did Garver have the Day off vs. a lefty the day before an off day???? Oh yeah we had already won the series so the game didn't matter...
