Trade Targets thread

Post by D-train » Sat Jun 01, 2024 1:22 pm

It is now June so officially trade season.

First up is Ryan McMahon.

I like him as a trade target but they are probably too cheap to take on his contract and they would probably bench him vs. LHPs even though he has almost a 1.000 OPS vs. LHPs this season. Actually hits better on the Road than at Coors. Plays 3B primarily but can play 2B and 1B as well.

He is also very good defensively with 65 runs above replacement.

There are options up the ying yang out there. It's going to come down to what Jerry wants to give up and pay for. Knowing his style he will probably try and get by as cheaply as possible and pull a rabbit out of a hat.

How about packaging Haniger, Garver, Canzone, Urias, Zavala and Polanco for a relief pitcher?

Since they started charging for MLB Trade Values, it’s hard to put together a proposal. But I’ll be damned if I am spending $25 a year for that thing.

The Diamondbacks have lost 5 in a row and are now 25-32. They just put their ace Gallen on the IL with a hamstring strain leaving them with a starting pitching staff with 1x starter with an ERA over 4.00, 2x starters with ERA's over 5.00, and 2x starters with ERA's over 6.00. Their other top starter, Merrill Kelly, is on the 60-day IL with shoulder problems.

It appears their season might be done...

Obvious trade candidates are:

1B Christian Walker - hitting .262/.359/.461/.820 with 11 homers and a 57K/31BB ratio which is a career best. He's a free agent at season's end and would be a welcome addition. He's a far better 1B defensively than France meaning you could move France to more of a DH role and Garver to more of a backup catcher role.

DH Joc Pederson - hitting .308/.407/.546/.953 with 7 homers. He's been a pure platoon bat, having taken only 9 AB's against left handed pitching this season... but he's crushing righties. His K rate has ticked up of late, but the numbers have been even better in May with a .968 OPS. Joc is also a free agent in '25 and is making just $9.5 million. To me, he'd be the perfect add.

RHP Paul Sewald - has pitched just 7 innings thus far coming off the IL, but has been electric in those 7 innings. He's sporting a 1.29 ERA and 0.571 WHIP. Obviously the M's are familiar and can trade back for him considering he's a free agent in '25 as well.

Hell... I'd trade for them all.

Here's my package:

M's trade Mitch Garver, Ty France, Jonatan Clase, Emerson Hancock, and Michael Morales for all 3. M's eat all of Garver's remaining salary for '24 and half of his salary for '25. The trade gives the DBacks 2x auto replacements for the rentals lost so they can compete again in '25 and a starter to add into the back half of their terrible rotation.

If the website had an algorithm that rejected stupid ass trades where you offer Emerson Hancock for Aaron Judge then I'd probably pay for it. But the trade board is swimming with these stupid trades and it's hard to filter through all of them.

Yeah. The math makes sense. I spend more than that each week at Starbucks.

It’s the principle. I mean, come on. Just stick a few banner ads and pop ups on it like everyone else.

I like the guys and feel like it would instantly boost our offensive production. I feel like most trade proposals are going to involve a guy like Woo rather than Hancock, but what do I know?
