If getting Vlad Jr. meant dealing Miller or Woo......do you pull the trigger?!?!

Vlad is one of the worst defenders and baserunners in baseball. He's got an .820 OPS which is good, but not elite. He hasn't been elite since 2021. He's on pace for a slightly above 3 fWAR season.
Matt Olson hung a .911 OPS in '21 at age 27 and was traded with 1 year of control. He fetched only 1x top-100 prospect, a former top-100 prospect, and 2x mid-tier pitchers from the Braves system.
Woo and Miller are worth far more than Vlad on their own.

I don't think it will be for rentals is the thing.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 3:42 amThey will do something, dipoto MO is trading, he will come up with one or two. It's needed for the fan base
I think they'll want to add players with some control to keep things rolling.
Robert and Rooker have to be compelling for that reason as they're both controlled for the next 3 years.

Yeah that's the general feeling, I commented the other day I could see them getting away from that with the problems they have had adding players. A smaller investment might appeal to them. Robert or Rooker be the big splash. But I could see them going with someone like joc Peterson, Christian walker, Michael conforto?

I don't see it. The one area the Mariners can compete at is pitching development so why invest all that trade capital in a top of the food chain reliever? I also feel closers are over valued. At best Miller delivers 3 WAR this season. Is that really worth that kind of investment?

I like it, and I'd do it. But like Donn, I don't see it happening. It doesn't seem like a Jerry kind of deal. I don't think he'd sell the farm for a closer, especially when the back end of our pen is pretty good. But if it did happen, who would we plug into the 5th rotation spot? Hancock?Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 3:42 pmHow about this trade

I gather both the Jays and the Mets think they have enough in the tank to compete for a wild card, so I don't think the Jays are going to part with Vlad or Bo, and the Mets aren't going to part with Alonso. So if one of our biggest needs is 1B, we are going to have to look elsewhere.
MLB Trade Rumors ranked the 50 players who could be dealt at the trade deadline. The first 4 are pitchers, but the top position player is Jazz Chisholm. I made a plug for him yesterday. I know he's been a bit inconsistent due to injuries, but he controllable and relatively cheap, he can play outfield, but he's better at 2B, and he's starting to heat up. He can swipe bags, and he's a plus defender at 2B. He'd be a good get, IMHO.

How cheap do you think he is? Most of what I'm hearing is that it's going to cost you Young or Ford + more. And for what exactly?Big_Maple wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 5:43 pmI like it, and I'd do it. He's got a career .248/.309/.444/.753 slash w. a 103 OPS+.
He's like a 3fWAR/162 player.
Why exactly would anyone give up top prospects for that?

This jack wagon suggests that the best path forward is just to pick Whit and Kiermaier of the trash heap.
