I'm talking about this point in time. You could argue cutting haniger could make them a better team because of the players that could get more playing time. But Garver isn't blocking anybody as the second catcher. Terms of his war, that was based on dhing, it has to improve with the defensive value as a catcher. Sure he's grossly overpaid, but he's not just an anchor. They could have saved money if they had gone with Ford. But on the other hand, assuming they both failed they do have some actual value still with Garver. Cutting Garver would make them a worse team. Then they'd have to go find another catcher

True. They would either have to go with their trash can catchers in AAA or rush Ford.

Or looked for one at the trade deadline. Even with Garvers negative war, I don't see it making sense to try to replace him as a catcher that way. In fact it's probably what we will have next season. Unless they could trade him I guess

The issue to me wasn't walking Devers, it was going with Diaz in that situation. Diaz has to pitch to Devers, you don't want him pitching to Refsnyder. That is if you follow his splits lol

A few years ago I paid fair market value for a Kia for my wife, since I purchased it the value has tanked and we owe more than its worth which is prohibiting me from going and buying the larger vehicle that would work better for our family. I already made the mistake of buying the Kia so now keeping it provides more value to me than selling it at a loss and buying the bigger vehicle.

Same deal with Garver, we've already committed the money for Garver so he still holds some value.

Your wife will definitely be telling you that buying the Kia very quickly proved to be a mistake. It starts up but that’s just about all it does. None of the features function properly and it’s an uncomfortable drive and isn’t suitable for what you need anymore.

You might have a watertight economical, data-driven answer but there is no way your Mrs would agree that there is more value in keeping the Kia. At best you might be able to get her to put up with it for the next few months, but it’s making her really sad and she wants you to sort it out (and sort the financing) for next year so she doesn’t have to put up with the shitty Kia any longer than is necessary.

He did change it, he went back to catching. Before when he hit well he was catching, then the Mariners made him a dh. Believe his hitting began to improve when he began catching again but it didn't stick
