And like I pointed out, it's likely altuve will be the only original player from when their run began in 2017 so a pretty sustainable model
Yes, Jerry is too pea brained to realize that. He is the smartest guy in the room as long as the room is a broom closet.

Jerry Dipoto is likelier to accept a similar position with another franchise than to be let go by the Mariners.

Either is doubtful.

Whatever the odds of signing any of our young talent long term may be, keeping Greasy Jerry around has to lower the odds even more. Athletes want to play for winners. Winners of championships, not awards for most consecutive years reaching 54%

He should apologize to his wife and children for being a horrible person.

It's quite simple really. The owners are happy with fielding a team that's just good enough to give fans hope and spend their hard-earned money on $20 beers.

Jerry has been doing exactly what the owners want, and he's making them a LOT of money doing it. Of course they're going to extend him because they don't give a fuck about winning. And if they don't give a fuck, why the fuck should I???

FUCK THIS DYSFUNCTIONAL POS ORGANIZATION!!!

It could be different next year. If the team is bad or even just boring and mid, I could see a sort of malaise and indifference setting in with the fanbase, where attendance starts falling off, Fubo subscriptions get cancelled, and the sports media starts talking about the Huskies and Seahawks in May and June. If that happens, then I think you all will get your wish and they'll let Jerry go.

I'm no fan of Jerry but you guys seem to be forgetting the context of the (unfortunate) 54% remark. He wasn't saying the goal is to do that every season or in an individual season. He was talking about long-term results. If you win 54% over a 10 year span you're going to make the playoffs some years and be below .500 others. It's a strange way to look at things though because it suggests that you don't intend to go for it in the short term.

He suggested that 54% over a decade would guarantee a WS victory or at least an appearance. We won 55% of our games from 1994 to 2003. I must have early onset dementia because I can't remember any WS highlights. Can you remind me of them????

W L %
2003 Seattle Mariners 162 93 69 0.574
2002 Seattle Mariners 162 93 69 0.574
2001 Seattle Mariners 162 116 46 0.716
2000 Seattle Mariners 162 91 71 0.562
1999 Seattle Mariners 162 79 83 0.488
1998 Seattle Mariners 161 76 85 0.472
1997 Seattle Mariners 162 90 72 0.556
1996 Seattle Mariners 161 85 76 0.528
1995 Seattle Mariners 145 79 66 0.545
1994 Seattle Mariners 112 49 63 0.438

10 year Total 851 700 0.549

That's what he said, no guarantee of a WS
“If you go back and you look in a decade, those teams that win 54 percent of the time always wind up in the postseason,” Dipoto said. “And they, more often than not, wind up in the World Series. So there’s your bigger-picture issue.
