It always stuns when men have more respect for a man that doesn't deserve their respect.

I'm not saying there aren't because I don't know, but are there many other GM's that get another chance after 9 years with a .515 win% and 1 playoff appearance ?

Not a chance he'd be on my list, he can't build a winner.
There's also his time with the Angels, so it's more than 9 years without a consistent winner. But, what he has done is hired the right people to massively improve the farm system and the amateur scouting that feeds it. And then there's the improved pitching development at the upper levels of the minors and in the majors. We also don't know how Mariners ownership is viewed by the rest of the league. Does working for this group give someone like DiPoto an excuse to have not produced more than one postseason team in 9 years? It didn't help Bavasi or Zdurenciek as neither got another shot at the top job.

But my guess is that he'll get at least one more chance at the top job in an organization if he's let go here.
In nine seasons under Jerry Dipoto, the Mariners have posted a cumulative regular-season record of 689-649 (.515), including a 340-289 (.541) since the start of the 2021 season.

In the nine seasons before Dipoto's arrival, the Mariners posted a record of 671-787 (.460).

The Mariners are not the Los Angeles Angels, who are now guaranteed a ninth straight losing season despite their location in an attractive market.

The Seattle front office faces challenges of finances, geography and environment. Dipoto would have no shortage of suitors if he left the Mariners.

If Dipoto left, by his volition or not, would the Mariners be able to upgrade with his replacement? Do top baseball executives want to join the Seattle franchise?
That is about my perspective.

They've done it in the past, as well as sign significant FA contracts. Everyone was happy about getting rid of the Japanese ownership but wasn't that the franchises most legitimate period?

Yeah I think I took the fact that he never bothered to attend a game as indifference but that obviously wasn't the case. Now Stanton attends the games and destroys any chance at a WS due to his inane sustainability philosophy.

Who were the top baseball execs that we got in the past?

Teams should hire Jerry on a 4 year plan - build up our farm system to top 5 or 10 in that time period and then cut him and bring in a GM that can then put together a WS with those prospects, etc. By the end of the 4 years he will have shed the team of any really bad contracts and built up the system. He can be a kick-starter GM for WS aspiring teams! lol.

Gillick was decent but he had the same problem Jerry does - refuses to trade prospects or put together a big contract for a FA.

That's about what I think the Mariners should be doing since Dipoto hasn't had any success at selecting MLB quality players to add at the top of the roster.

Almost every season we would have been better off by not acquiring/signing his "most impactful " moves.

Even if the M's couldn't draw top baseball execs, they'd be better off with someone else at the head of baseball operations than a guy who has made the playoffs in 1/11 years he's lead a team.

You know you have something in common with Jerry.

Yeah, neither of us are able to sign MLB-quality bats.
