The Ed-Gar effect!

Post by Pharmabro » Mon Sep 16, 2024 6:59 am

The Mariners are hitting under EdGar!

Mariners in September rank #2 in WRC in MLB
129 WRC+
.261 .350 .435 = .785 OPS

Grabbing a slightly larger sample since Dan and Edgar took the reigns:
They are third best in baseball with a 123 WRC+

I have mocked the good vibes clu8bhouse thing at times but:

In LAA a veteran manager Mike Scioscia didn't like all the information JD's analytics guys brought them. With0in the last month or two I made a comment about it somewhere, maybe 2.

I have heard many sources report that Edgar has simplified the approach and has been working with the guys in the cages to get them going and it has worked.

The M's entered with a 101 WRC+ (It had been in the 90's with the other guys)
They had the #1 SP in baseball and even with injuries 11 starts from 10X Hancock and 1 from Diaz. Combined with the massive injuries and losses in the pen they are still at a 107 ERA+ on the year.

Look at the best teams in baseball and how would a Mariner team at a 129 WRC+, and a 107 ERA+ stack-up?

NYY 114 OPS+, 109 ERA+
Balt 116 OPS+ 97 ERA+
Cle 97 OPS+ 112 ERA+
LAD 117 OPS+ 101 ERA+
Phil 110 OPS+ 109 ERA+
Pilots 103 OPS+ 117 ERA+

If this team can get into the playoffs they can do some damage!

I wonder what Edgar would have done with France had we kept him around?

So what has been the Mariners' OPS+ with Edgar?

Maybe idiot Jerry should have waited until it was too late to make the obvious move. Dehart was hitting coach for 6 SEASONS!

So what was the point of firing the manager, if hiring Edgar was the solution?

They needed both. SS had lost the team.

This is the problem with the Astros having such a slow start. Even though anyone watching knew how bad the Mariners sucked, they clung to 1st place for a long time, so Servais/DeHart stuck around.

And they waited until August 23rd after they had lost 15 games in the standings to them.

I suppose my 200 posts about hating Scott Servais over the years have paid off in a nice September.

"That's baseball" will never not infuriate me.

Removing the control players have over the game they play with stupid mantras like that and calling yourself a manager... holy fuck.
