I have a question about next year.
I have a question about next year.
I have been Looking at Randy, and JRod as 100% for LF/CF in 2025.
The way Robles is playing he is has earned based on performance the starting position in RF now and going into next year.
What to do with Raley? He can play all three of the OF positions so you could see him get a start or 2 per week out there. All three of the starters like to snag bags but that tend to get you banged up and needing a day off or two.
Luke Raley entered today with a 129 OPS+. And we know he can play 1B. But what if we go get Pete Alonso?
Do you think they could teach Raley 3B? Does he have the arm? I checked baseball savant and I think he has the tools to play 3B:
Speed: 29 FPS Which is 90th percentile
Arm 74th percentile 88<-- I am not sure what the 88 is but my guess is that is his max velocity on throws this year?
For my money I would hope Chapman opts out and we sign him for a little bump from his 2 player options with buyouts and add a guy that is at 7.5 BWAR 2024

Re: I have a question about next year.
Luke Raley isn't a 3rd baseman
Re: I have a question about next year.
If you can play 1B and any outfield position, chances are you can play 3B.
I don't think they'll try it, but not much reason Raley couldn't do it.
He doesn't have the bat for 1B, but would make a great 3B bat. Worth a shot if they're going to keep Arozarena.
If they're not keeping Randy then Raley has earned the 3rd OF spot imo.

Re: I have a question about next year.
Why? Is it because you think he is too big and couldn't make a charging off-balance bare hand bend and throw with accuracy?
Re: I have a question about next year.
The same can be said about Dylan Moore and Josh Rojas...
Re: I have a question about next year.
Raley is OF/1B/DH. He’ll play 75 % of the time. Get a 3B and a righty 1B/DH and roll for next year.
The poster formerly known as Kingfelixk. With a new forum comes a new boardname. Julio is my guy, plus we share a birthday, so that's Culiooooo

This season-
2023-2024-
Donn, I saw the post you deleted about his size. I don't think he's too big, Raley is one of the best athletes on the team.
There's nothing to "teach" about 3B that anybody who's been playing as long as these guys doesn't know. If you can field a ball at 1B from a LH batter, you can play 3B and field balls off of RH bats without a problem.

Perhaps it's time for the Mariners to circle back to thirdbaseman Isaac Paredes, Luke Raley's former Tampa teammate who has cratered since his July trade to the Cubs.

The Cubs' top prospect -- Matt Shaw -- has played third base most frequently in the minors this year and is projected to make his MLB debut in 2025. A second Cubs thirdbase prospect, Cam Smith, is a Top 100 prospect at MLB.com (which ranks Shaw No. 22).

The 25-year-old Paredes comes with three years of team control working off his 2024 Super Two salary of $3.4 million.
Who knows what Paredes would cost in trade?

I glanced over this thread.
You've got Julio, Randy and possibly Raley as your third OFer.
Does this leave Robles anywhere?

Rocky Colavito is a Hall of Famer in my book!

You need four outfielders
