Re: 9/23/24 Asstros officially put us out of our misery game thread
I was just watching the postgame and they were interviewing Julio. Like others, he attributed their offensive improvement at the plate by simplifying their approach, and not filling their head with too much info or analytics. We've heard this from several different players now.
The big question is, who was responsible for making things so complicated and filling their heads with too much info? If it was DeHart and Servais, then problem solved. But if it's a directive from Dipoto, it could potentially be an ongoing problem. I know that was a major issue between Dipoto and Scioscia when he was with the Angles, and one of the main reasons they couldn't work together.
This makes me think Dipoto is the one preaching all the analytics. Has he seen the error of his ways with the obvious offensive improvement since Servais was fired, or will he go right back to his past beliefs?
If they retain Edgar, I think it's a good sign that they will maintain their current approach. If Dipoto brings in a different hitting coach, I think we should be concerned.

Manager gets to choose his coaching so hopefully Gar returns but if he doesn't hopefully Dan brings in someone who can help this lineup to replace Gar. I would give Gar as much money as he wants to stay. Gotta give him something he can't say no to. We finally have an offenseTraderGary wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 3:48 amI was just watching the postgame and they were interviewing Julio. This is well known to be a data/ analytics driven organization.TraderGary wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 3:48 amI was just watching the postgame and they were interviewing Julio. I think he may have figured it out. He and the organization are well known for developing and fixing pitchers. The bats have mixed results. Dehart said something about using less hip swing and Robles has been on a tear for months. Whatever they said to Eugenio Saurez worked like dynamite for the first year. Julio was labeled as a corner OF only until going to "High performance camp" which translated into 98th percentile sprint speed.

Nope Edgar and Dan are the deal. Gar the bat whisperer!seth8734 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:04 amManager gets to choose his coaching so hopefully Gar returns but if he doesn't hopefully Dan brings in someone who can help this lineup to replace Gar. Mariners win! We're HEROES!!!
We should have ditched the stupid hitting philosophy in May once it became apparent we were going to finish 30th in batting average and shatter the MLB record for strikeouts. Why the hell did we stick with that until August? We SHOULD be vying for the best record in baseball instead of hoping for a miracle.

I don't get the impression Edgar wants to return. From Wilson's tone, Edgar only agreed to this seasonPharmabro wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:43 amNope Edgar and Dan are the deal. "I want to thank Edgar for agreeing to join us for the remainder of the season," Wilson said in a statement. "I'm confident his deep knowledge of hitting and experience with our hitters will be a great addition."
"When Dan reached out to me, I told him that I'd be happy to assist him this season in whatever way I could," Martinez said. "I know the talent and work ethic this group of hitters has, and I hope I can be of help to them."

I agree, but I think Dipoto takes it to the extreme to the point where the hitters have so much data going through their heads, they can't do the most basic things like see ball.... hit ball.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 4:42 amThis is well known to be a data/ analytics driven organization.TraderGary wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2024 3:48 amI was just watching the postgame and they were interviewing Julio.
