Don't like the 4th one - where he's basically saying - See - we had the right players - they just needed to start hitting, lol. Now he will make minimal adjustments and spout off how the last month proved the team was sound.

Yeah, not a fan of how it sounds, but he's not too wrong.

The coaching changes seemed to have a decent impact, can't deny it.

Two big improvements and they'll have a contender imo.

But that isn't going to happen with second and third tier free agents imo.

Oddly, I think this team is probably closer than teams of the past.

Despite the fact that the M's won more games in '22/'23... the team coming out of '24 has more established talent on it. Julio, Randy, Robles, Cal, Raley is a nice core of now veteran position players. The starting staff now has 3x established, veteran, stud arms at the top with 2x elite young starters who have a year of experience. The bullpen will be Munoz, Brash, Santos on the back end which is pretty lethal.

He's right that the infield needs to be addressed. Hopefully they make a splash. But I feel a lot better about next year's team than I did in previous years.

And best of all... no Servais.

So we're all just assuming the starting pitching will be as good next year as it was this year? I just don't see that as very likely.

"As good" is probably not realistic. But still very good? Yes.

The pitching doesn't need to be no. 1 in MLB to win. The offense just can't be bottom 3 for the first 5 months of the season.

In September the M's are 3rd in positional fWAR. 2nd in wRC+. 3rd in OPS. 5th in batting average.

If you can come anywhere near that for a full season you're a World Series favorite with this pitching staff.

Reading this article, you can't help but chuckle at the people who thought they were smart by chastising us that the people running the team were the experts at player evaluation when we would question them.

They're a bunch of suckers, and now they admit it.

"..will spend the offseason evaluating it's own evaluation process.."

My favorite is all the Mariners podcasts, beat writers, etc... who went with all this "marine layer," "it's early," "stop being negative..." We have eyeballs. I saw how bad the offense would be in the first fucking series.

They should be forced to apologize... instead, they crawl into a hole or pretend they were on the wagon all along.

Robles, Randy, and Rodriguez works
Raley works
Raleigh works
( That is a fine front 5 )

France going from looking like a batting champ to batting chump hurt the build in a huge way. As did all the under performing bats//// Saurez, Teo, Wong, Julio, JP, Jorge, Garver, Haniger.

That said the most important thing I read was being inventive to have Edgar back to make it work for the bat CZAR EdGar the bat Czar. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Seems Jerry has taken some time to reflect on how he can spin this season. After all. we might even end up statistically missing out on the play-offs on the tie-breaker.

Clearly he can hide behind the hitting debacle. Last year didn't he set out a strategy of minimising strikeouts and that would lead us to the promised land? Yet what did he do to change that? Nothing.

He is culpable for the disaster but he can explain it away by basing the failure on Servais, his great mate being the problem.

I am in a similar box to SoB though. There is something good and positive about what has happened since Servais went. There could be 5 R's players who are still here next year who could be the core of something special; Raleigh, Robles, Rodriguez, Raley and Randy (R-rozarena). The games are more watchable and the results have also been decent apart from maybe two shockers.

If he can avoid picking up another Wong, Frazier, Polanco and so on then who knows? But he is probably acutely aware that next season is his last if he doesn't deliver a playoff team.

Maybe, just maybe the team spends next year. If they do, it will be because Jerry will have to do all he can to save himself. I suppose it doesn't matter what motivates the decision to go for it but let's keep our fingers crossed.
