I was being cautiously optimistic, but you highlighted a specific part of my post so I will call it out.TridentHawk wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:43 pmLou is regarded as one of the best managers in baseball over the last 50 years and says that DW is qualified and given a ringing endorsement. I would think that Lou is capable of making that determination, don't you?
Here’s a classic example where the universally accepted greatest manager of all time (not just “one of the best”) almost hand-picked his successor and he was a disaster who never completed a full season.

So no, it doesn’t follow that a manager is capable of making that determination. The quoted example was the greatest ever manager making a determination from his current experience right at the very time he was retiring and he got it completely wrong. Ferguson is 82 now and no-one would take his opinion into account when recruiting managers. Lou is of a similar age and 14 years out-of-the-game (Ferguson 11 years)
His opinion is still very valuable nonetheless and important but you seem to be telling me that I should accept it unconditionally. I don’t think so, it’s nice to hear what he thinks but I will judge Wilson on his results, style and decision making, thank you very much. For now I am happy to remain cautiously optimistic.
