Lou is regarded as one of the best managers in baseball over the last 50 years and says that DW is qualified and given a ringing endorsement. I would think that Lou is capable of making that determination, don't you?
I was being cautiously optimistic, but you highlighted a specific part of my post so I will call it out.

Here’s a classic example where the universally accepted greatest manager of all time (not just “one of the best”) almost hand-picked his successor and he was a disaster who never completed a full season.

So no, it doesn’t follow that a manager is capable of making that determination. The quoted example was the greatest ever manager making a determination from his current experience right at the very time he was retiring and he got it completely wrong. Ferguson is 82 now and no-one would take his opinion into account when recruiting managers. Lou is of a similar age and 14 years out-of-the-game (Ferguson 11 years)

His opinion is still very valuable nonetheless and important but you seem to be telling me that I should accept it unconditionally. I don’t think so, it’s nice to hear what he thinks but I will judge Wilson on his results, style and decision making, thank you very much. For now I am happy to remain cautiously optimistic.

 I just ran our debate through AI so perhaps you might believe it now.

i understand that you dont have facts to support your opinion but would you consider it a big jump in responsibility to be a successful player who is mentored by a very successful manager to be promoted from special assignment coordinator on a Minor League baseball team to become a major league on-field manager?

Absolutely, it would still be a significant jump in responsibility. Even for a successful player who has been mentored by a very successful manager, transitioning from a special assignment coordinator in the Minor Leagues to a Major League on-field manager involves a considerable increase in duties and expectations.

While being a successful player and having a great mentor can provide valuable insights and experience, the role of a Major League manager is multifaceted. It requires not only a deep understanding of the game but also strong leadership, strategic decision-making, and the ability to manage diverse personalities and high-pressure situations.

The skills and knowledge gained as a player and through mentorship are undoubtedly beneficial, but the responsibilities of a Major League manager extend beyond what is typically encountered in those roles. It involves overseeing the entire team’s performance, making critical in-game decisions, handling media relations, and ensuring the overall success of the team at the highest level of professional baseball.

It’s a challenging transition, but with the right preparation and support, it can be a rewarding and successful move.

His training was more about his seasons as a ML catcher. That was his training. If you look at ML managers that's going to be a lot of it. I think Wilson has had more post career training than many. I think your typical ML manager is an ex catcher, they have had a few seasons as a ML coach. If you're thinking they come up through the ranks of minor League managing they don't. I can't think of any at least. They typically are ex major leaguers, they are not being asked to go manage a AA team somewhere to Learn how to manage. Go look at the experience of current managers, I'd be curious. Lou Pinella went straight from his baseball career to ML managing

Terms of Wilson I think this is something that's been planned, he's been groomed. It took me by surprise but I hadn't realized what he had been up. It wasn't that they planned to fire SS but they were prepared to. Like I said before, managers have a shelf Life. Servais had been there for nine years. That's a heck of a long time for a manager. In terms of SS and dipoto being buddies. Servais Learned he was fired from the media, that's some buddy
