I may be annoying you but I also get a little of this . When I hear about how JD the prospect hoarder was dumb for getting JT, Randy, JT C, and Yimi. Nope, they would have got Rooker, and Vlad . When all the other teams in the hunt asked about those same players and neither of them got moved.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2024 12:32 amCan you please stop with that?Pharmabro wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 11:07 pmIt sounds like you are in the same boat as I am. II don't think any of the big "difference makers" are available. (Rooker, Vlad, etc), and this sports head mantra that you want to hear from Dipota is grandiose but dumb.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 10:29 pm
Why don't you suggest who the Mariners should go get?
Do an analysis of free agents you like or who might be available in a trade.
JD
"I am going to do whatever it takes to go get Brent Rooker!"
Billy Beane~ "OK, Robles, Raley, Woo, Lazaro, Troy Taylor, Sloan, Colt, Ford, and Kirby?"
JD~ Yes! I have full filled my oath to the fans, and have made the team better by adding that big bat!
Reality check! You can't bravado your way into forcing other GMs to give you their best players. This is not Madden legacy mode.
It helps nobody.
I'm hopeful this forum can get a little better at understanding trade values and how they work... I'm sort of tired of all the lazy takes.
I don't think Rooker is available... but if he is, it's a package that likely mirrors what Olson went for a few years back. Perhaps the A's don't entertain the M's... Idk... but throwing around 7 top names is so dumb.
Now, I would revisit BB about Rooker in the off-season. And yes, I would offer a huge trade pack with only Lazaro off the board. Something 3-4 top 100's and a few top 100 adjacent.
I would like to mention their Pythagorean looks like it will be 89 or 90 wins. And yes, JD mentioned that they were up 10 games with a .587 win percentage (paced for 95 wins). Hell, if they went .500 the rest of the year with plenty of loser squads on the schedule
they would have been in comfortably.
They lost 6 series in a row After June 19th to: (Cleveland OK) Miami, TB Twins, Balt= OK, Jays
2 game sweep of SD
LAA, Houston, Swept by LAA
They lost 9/10 series and 5 of those losses were against SUB .500 teams. Not to mention the two series against the Tigers where Riley was out for both and Carpenter was out for one of their series.
That is the squad absolutely shitting the bed. How do you think the Yankees would look if Judge was an 88 OPS+ hitter the 1st 4 months of the year? Julio's 1st 114 games he was at a .660 OPS.
The players shitting the bed is their own fault. And the mental lapses.
This team lost their shit and needed a change at the helm. Cal called it out around the A.S break.( the team has no energy) Julio broke in with a 147 OPS+ under Scott and DeFart. In his last 28 games not counting the finale he was a .990 OPS guy.
It was a lost year because your MVP player was a scrub until the last month. Too little too late. If they would have pulled the trigger at the All star break? I think with Edgar on board and a healthy pen they are primed for a run with a few changes to be made.
And throwing around 7 top names is precisely what I want to communicate: You can't force a competitor to be nice and give you a deal. The only way you are forcing an unwilling GM to trade is to say hey Billy what would it take. And Billy looks at it and says "I don't want to move him but if you want to force my hand". It wouldn't be a price the M's should be willing to pay.I happen to think it is dumb for people to spout off about how they would have convinced Billy Beane that whatever names they put down would have convinced him to trade Rooker and Jerry was too dumb to get it done. Or, the other one where people spout off about how Jerry has won the farm battle and he is hoarding prospects because X,Y and Z. Meanwhile most of us remember thinking it was an overpay in prospects when we got Luis Castillo. I think most of the attacks on JD are off base.
