Postmortem - Seattle v Motor City

Post by auroraave » Tue Oct 01, 2024 4:37 am

Yeah, Seattle lost tonight... but all I could think of is... holy shit - these guys are gonna be good.

On the road, down five starters on defense, four on the dline which is the strength of the unit, yeah they got burned a few times, but this game was Detroit's to lose - period. To me it was over at 14-0, but Seattle battled back and fought hard.

Game ball IMMEDIATELY to Geno Fucking Smith who BALLED OUT. Give that dude just a little bit better protection and I honestly cannot think of a better QB. he really was clutch for SO much of the game. Not perfect, but no one is. Dude threw for almost 400 yards. C'mon man.

This offense REALLY impressed me. There were mistakes, sure, but that fucking lateral on third and long? BALLS! Going for it on fourth? BALLS! Grubb showed some OUTSTANDING concepts. Walker continues to show he may be the best back in the game not named Derrick Henry. Charbonnet was an absolute beast all game long - especially in passing downs. SO many quick throws to open backs - absolutely brilliant strategy to offset the heavy pressure. Another game ball to Grubb who called a great game.

Yeah, the defense got torched, which is what happens when nearly 50% of your starters are out. Love is an animal - before he went out saw several killer open field tackles by him. The decimated dline was the difference in this game - make NO mistake - at full strength I think SEattle wins this game - and we may very well see Detroit again in January.

Cut that shit-for-brains returner. The cotton candy vendor would be just as apt. Here's an idea - RUN NORTH/SOUTH YOU GODDAM IDIOT.
Seattle came out in the second half on fire. That stalled drive that died from the Lockett penalty - a fair penalty call - ended the game. You have to score in that situation.

I did not think the oline was that bad - saw several plays where Forsythe was kicking Hutchinson's ass. This group needs time together - I think they'll be alright - especially with Grubb calling the plays - dude called a spectacular game - it just wasn't enough this time.

Metcalf did Metcalf things. I guess you take the good with the bad. It'll always be that way. I liked the balls to go for two why the fuck not? It looked like a catch to me - not sure why it wasn't reviewed. A critical error that ultimately, made no difference. The takeaway is that Seattle is going to be aggressive - this isn't Pete Carroll's punt-a-thon and a prayer. No - this team is going to be in your fucking face and you better be ready and I love it.

No big opinion on officiating, plenty of stupid shit on both sides but overall, it looked reasonable.

I really came away impressed - yeah, big mistakes on a depleted defense - in the MOST vulnerable area. Fix that and this team well be very, very formidable. Again, if we were at full strength, I am confident Seattle wins this game. You have to win the LOS battle on at least ONE side of the ball.

This is not a big loss, this game was 100% Detroit's to lose and they came to play - give them all the credit - they came prepared and they executed a strong game plan - and Seattle still fought back to make it questionable. Seattle DOMINATED the stat sheet, it was simply the big plays vs a depleted defense that killed Seattle. Again, credit Detroit - that is a good team.

Consider this: the "worst oline in the NFL" went on the road against a very formidable defense and hung over 500 yards , 38 first downs and dominated TOP. That's damn impressive. They took the L, but look atb the bigger picture - this offense is fucking LEGIT and this defense will come together when they are healthy. Half your starters out is just too much to ask - it's exponentially worse when it is ON THE LINE. Detroit has a bunch if big plays - and still had less than 400 yards offense.

I can live with this L - this team showed a lot tonight - Grubb is all that - and lord have mercy on the NFC West when that dline is healthy. Lord have mercy. This team is gonna be a problem and I fucking LOVE IT!

Take care of business against the Giants and head into division play at 4-1 and at full strength at home vs Santa Clara - I like their chances. This team looks fierce to me. The ceiling just got a little higher - despite the loss.

Go hawks and FTN.

Sibelius Hindemith - will this do? In skipped the Alps mountain biking trip this weekend just for you. :D

Completely agree. I've said this several times this year, but I have no doubt the Hawks of the last two or three years would have shit the bed and smeared it on the walls in this same scenario. There was no "what the fuck are we thinking there" moment. You are right, the Lockett penalty was a bummer, but then later we have what should have been a first and goal from the one, but they blew a blatant PI in the endzone. I still think it would have been too little too late, but would have been a one score game with us kicking off well before the two minute warning. Who knows?

But again, I wasn't upset by this loss at all. As AA mentioned, all those injuries up front, but for once we looked like a team that game planned for our strengths and their weaknesses. Refreshing, IMO.

And K 9 was a beast. What the Fuck Pete and Waldron thought they saw last year that mean he needed limited touches? Must have just been the injury issues, but damn that dude is good.

Completely agree. And I'm picking on the previous regime, but in a PC game plan scenario this loss would have been miserable and hopeless followed by a post game presser filled with excuses.

As far as losses go, this was a good one. Love the direction this team is heading.

Is it premature for me to say this? yes, but
Grubb is the OC we've been waiting for. He is why the offense is working.

Agreed. But more importantly, Macdonald is the HC we've been waiting for.

And aurora makes a good point regarding Geno. Dude is a baller.

"We were forced to chuck it around in the second half and I thought he was poised," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said. "It was a loud environment, Lions fans did a great job, but operation-wise, I thought we were clean, I thought he was poised, thought he was accurate. I thought he played a heck of a game. I don't know what the stats are, but I thought he played really well."

Geno was really moving around in the pocket as well. The Lions pressured the shit out of him, and he was able to elude and make throws down field. He played a hell of a ball game. Again, really nothing to hang our heads about. I see us trouncing the G Men next week.

Geno Leads the League in Yards. He on pace for over 5000. He has 115 completions. The next closest is Dak at 96.

But but but he has no NFL experience. I guess he does now.
