I agree that modifying weather has been around for a long time. Cloud seeding was being tried when I was growing up in the Midwest. I'd say the "successes" were modest. If "they" are so capable, we would have already seen the elimination of droughts, heatwaves, cold snaps, etc. Wouldn't we? Why save all this awesome power for steering hurricanes to harm republicans? (And as I posted before, steering hurricanes would be an incredible physical accomplishment.)

Sometimes, being "unimaginative" is correct.
And sometimes it's not.

This man says he personally seeded hurricanes for warfare and was involved with "Project Stormfury".

He even brings receipts-

They're all "conspiracy theories"... until they're not.

It's truly amazing to see the sad depths Harris fans will go to desperately steer the convo away from the actual policy and issues that effect Americans like economics, inflation, food prices, permanent war - because neither her nor her supporters can discuss policy because to do so would shed light on their brutal - and intentional - failures - so they trot out this nonsense. Its always the same thing - distract you from discussing actual policy because the dems cannot stand on any policy wins for the average American taxpayer. Zero. Next thing you know they'll become triggered by someone selling hats at a roadside merch booth.

Average American: "So, let's talk about dem economic policies...."

Dem's: "OMG - look - fake hurricanes!" "OMG - trump merch booths!" "OMG Orange Man Bad!" "OMG - racism!"

wash, rinse, repeat (aka talk about anything but what matters!)

Is there a single person left that doesn't see the ridiculous pattern?

I agree the campaign should be about policy. And I've said before (back when the primaries were happening and there were multiple Republican candidates running to oppose Biden) that if the Republicans chose someone who would focus on policy, they would win in a walk.

So who started talking about hurricanes being steered to maximize the impact on Republican areas? Who is making claims about the federal response being slower in Republican areas? Who claimed that Governor Kemp of Georgia couldn't reach Biden by phone? (Not Kemp: He said that Biden first tried to call *him* and that he - Kemp - missed the call.) Not Harris supporters, obviously.

It seems clear to me that Harris doesn't want to talk about certain things because they are poloitically losing issues for her. But in my opinion it's too bad (for Republicans and for the country) that we have a Republican candidate who is spreading falsehoods about a horrible disaster as a campaign tactic.

As much as I dread what will happen with Hurricane Milton, I fear the aftermath will be even worse if similar falsehoods are spread by Trump and his supporters.

^^^^^^^^ "Today, on Rachel Maddow, we're not gonna talk about the dem's disasterous policy failures, because ORANGE MAN BAD!"

Gil "I wish it were about policy, but Kamala's policies are terrible, so..... ORANGE MAN BAD!!!!"

Honest to God I laugh every time you post - you are such a cliche for people who watch CNN / MSNBC - you follow their marching orders like a good brown shirt. You talk out of both sides of your mouth - you'd 'like to discuss policy', yet you LITERALLY acknowledge the dems policies are fucking awful, and go right into ORANGE MAN BAD.

Thank you for this morning's chuckle, I needed that. I think you are a genuinely good dude, I just feel bad for you that you relentlessly bend the knee to the party - without any critical or independent thinking of your own - to your own peril. When you think about it, that's dem voters in a nutshell. You KNOW their policies are awful - you admit they are - and yet - you are going to willingly vote for policies you KNOW are awful. I mean, when you go to a restaurant do you seek out the worst food? Do you pay to see the worst movie? DO you look to overpay for goods and services? DO you look to pay more taxes? Are you looking for the highest gas prices? That is LITERALLY what you are doing - you are voting to have a worse life, a worser financial situation, lesser safety, higher taxes! YOU ARE ASKING FOR THIS.

The only thing that matters is POLICY - and that is the only thing dems WILL NOT TALK ABOUT. Jesus Christ - figure it out.

Glad I gave you a chuckle. I don't know if I'm more amused or saddened that a smart person like yourself assumes these things about me. I don't have cable. I don't watch CNN or MSNBC. Your saying I follow marching orders is BS.

Fuck the orange man bad shit. The only people I have heard saying this for a long time are Trump supporters making caricatures of his opponents.

My *attempted* point (not sure you got it), is that I think Republicans would be better served to be talking about policy rather than spreading the misinformation about the steering of the hurricane and the federal response to the tragedy.

So you are ignoring what I said, and you are making me out to be a caricature of someone you think exists.

But, as the James Taylor song goes, "maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep."

From an editorial in the Charlotte Observer (an NC friend sent the excerpt to me, with the link to the full editorial; there appears to be a paywall):
Western North Carolina is trying to pick up the pieces left behind by Hurricane Helene, which decimated the region, leaving communities destroyed and a death toll in the triple digits.

This is not a situation to capitalize on for political gain. But former President Donald Trump has politicized the situation at every turn, spreading falsehoods and conspiracies that fracture the community instead of bringing it together...

Let's be clear: Western North Carolina is not a political football. This is not a campaign opportunity. The most unhelpful thing any politician—or anyone else—can do right now is spread misinformation and tell people that their government isn't doing anything to help them.

Sowing the seeds of political division is always an unnecessary and tiresome endeavor. But doing so in times of great need, when unity is paramount, is particularly shameful.
