Re: HOF thread
Its never popular when I give my opinion on this but I feel that Ichiro is one of the most overrated players in MLB history.
Re: HOF thread
If he wasn't Japanese he is Jim Edmunds with a higher BA and less power.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 10:12 pmIts never popular when I give my opinion on this but I feel that Ichiro is one of the most overrated players in MLB history.

But it is the HOF. I think if you are seeing the Negro league stats being published as all-time MLB hits top 10's you should at least consider that Ichiro was dominant in the 2nd best league in the world.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 10:26 pmIf he wasn't Japanese he is Jim Edmunds with a higher BA and less power.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 18, 2024 10:12 pmIts never popular when I give my opinion on this but I feel that Ichiro is one of the most overrated players in MLB history.
Ichiro's 1st 10 years in MLB
Age 27 -36.331 .376 .430 .806 117 OPS+ and he had near 55 BWAR
Age 37-45 He only had 2 years where he was above league average with OPS+, this brought down his average dramatically. But he stayed in to chase records, say what you will about that.
Age 37-45 .268 .309 .342 .652 83 OPS+ and only an additional 5.2BWAR
But in Japan:
Age 18-26 He had an OPS in the 900's Every single year from age 20 to 26, His age 18, and 19 he would have been in MILB if he was stateside but from age 20 on, he demonstrated that he could have been age 27-36 Ichiro at least.
Pete Rose in his last 7 seasons put up a 92OPS+.
Ichiro is the all-time hits king. He is a legit HOF! If he would have come over for age 20 on, he would have had at least 35 more WAR putting him at 95 WAR. 95 WAR puts you at about the 25th place in position player WAR in MLB history.
Re: HOF thread
The season that he broke the hits record and hit .372 he had a 130 OPS
Luke Raley had a 129 OPS this season.
Mic drop.

Re: HOF thread
Yes, it is the Hall of Fame not the Hall of Stats so he should get in first ballot. If he wasn't Japanese he would be on the cusp like Jim Edmonds was.Pharmabro wrote: ↑Tue Nov 19, 2024 1:32 amBut it is the HOF.
